Garner and Gossett star as two con men during the early 1800's. The con? Gossett's character Jason O'Rourke is sold into slavery by Garner's Quincy Drew again and again. All's going well until Gossett is unable to escape as is actually thrown into chains with other slaves, including some fresh out of Africa. It's a comedy!!!!!

I remember seeing it about 15 years or so ago on TNT or TBS. It was a pretty good movie and really did step up to social commentary when Gossett (whose character had been free his whole life) is locked away with slaves and discovers that he took his freedom for granted and made a joke out of it with his con. At least, that's how I vaguely remember it.

It was a show that lasted one season in the early 80's that tried to take off on the popularity of Indiana Jones. It was about a pilot of an amphibious plane flying in the Pacific set in the late 1930's. He hunted for treasure while fighting pre-WWII Nazis and Japanese as well as some ofthe criminal element ofthe islands. I remember the pilot movie where Jake (the pilot) lost his dog's glass eye in a poker game, making the animal walk around with an eyepatch the rest ofthe series.

A rich kid gets sent to a public school and begins getting harrassed by bullies headed up by Matt Dillon. The kid is too much of a pussy, so he hires the school freak to be his bodyguard. People think he's been in prison and killed his brother or some shit and are scared shitless of him. Pussy rich kid becomes friends with school freak in typical Hollywood fashion. All is going well until Matt Dillon wises up and hires another badass to be his bodyguard. Turns out that the school freak is just a big pussy too, and he backs off. Buncha scenes delving into the pain ofthe school freak/pussy and getting him over it. Eventually, he faces up to Dillon's badass and stops being a pussy. Dillon tries to help out, but the rich kid pussy decides to stop being a pussy also and fights him. It ends with them all confronting their pussiness and going off to eat ice cream or something.
I saw it in the theater back in the day. Adam Baldwin of Firefly fame was the bodyguard. That movie would've been ten times better if, at the end, everyone teamed up and beat up Chris Makepeace, stole his money, gave him an atomic wedgie, hung him up on the flagpole, and then went off together to eat ice cream. And, of course, if the guys triple-teamed the love interest chick.

I like this movie. I remember it was my turn to pick what movies we'd watch that weekend...it must have been in the mid to late 1980's.. and I picked this one. Very cute.
Yes, Mxy, there was an obligatory henchman with sunglasses..I suppose you saw that one ofthe henchmen in Back To The Future wore a pair of 3 D glasses?

Unless it was a second run theater, it was 1980.

This was at a Video rental store. I am sorry. Guess I was a bit vague on that part.
I know the movie was in theaters in 1980, just didn't see it till several years later.
The networks used to run it a lot in the early 80's as well. I remember my brother and I having an argument over what to watch because one network was running this and another was running Young Frankenstein. I won out in the end, because Young Frankenstein is just a much better movie. I could tell that even when I was six.

"My Bodyguard" was actually a fairly acclaimed movie at the time. I've never seen it, but it was rather popular when it came out. I think this is the movie that made Matt Dillon famous, in fact.
It was basically The Smurfs meets The Dukes of Hazard. I remember watching it when it was first on and then again years later on USA's cartoon express. It was Hanna-Barbera, I believe.

Colin Hay (the lead singer) was on Scrubs last night (Comedy Central). He was singing "Overkill" and was actually funny. His solo album is pretty damned good.

I've always like his songs. Aside from the goofy videos, there's some pretty interesting themes in them.

Crap TV show from the early 80's about some British guy who changes into animals and fights crime.

An early 80's movie by Disney about a cartoonist who is recruited by the CIA or some shit and poses as the superhero he created with a buncha gadgets they built based on his drawings.

.... The Wizard? The TV show, not the Nintendo movie with Fred Savage.
The Wizard was about a midget toy inventor (David Rappaport) who, at one time, was a weapons designer for the US government. He's got an FBI bodyguard played by Douglas Barr (aka cousin Howie from The Fall Guy). Together with the old housekeeper, they get into crazy shit usually involving the bad guys wanting one ofthe Wizard's ingenious inventions. It was very MacGyveresque due to the fact that the main character turned his back on guns and other 'deadly' weapons and used his intellect and inventions to get him out of trouble. I remembered liking it as a kid, but it was so long ago and only one season, that I kinda wonder if it would hold up or if it's just one of those things you liked as a kid.
