I grew my goatee over the summer while on vacation mainly because I'm not allowed to wear one at the police dept I work at. I came in with it for one day in the middle of my break and nobody ever said anything about it. I still have it four monthes later and still not a word. I'm starting to feel real self-concious like nobody pays any attention to me anymore...*sniff*

I grow mine for about 2 months, go clean shaven for about an equal amount of tiem, then regrow it.

I've had mine for about two years now. The itchyness goes away after a while.

My advice: avoid runny eggs at Kings.

whut should a brotha do?

I've alternated between a goatee and a clean-shaven face for several years now. I grew my first full beard at 18, which was 8 years ago, but you can get away with being shaggy at that age...

The problem I've found with being clean-shaven is that because I have a very youthful face, I'm constantly thought to be about six or seven years younger than I really am. The goatee definitely gives it a harder look which adds age.

On the other hand, even though I live on the west coast, my last girlfriend didn't really dig my goatee all that much. Sure, she liked it when I had it, but when I shaved it off she finally revealed she prefers to kiss a guy with no facial hair.

Hey, if you can get away with having a goatee with NO mustache, I say go for it. The mustache is really the only drawback to the whole thing, I think, and the itchiest part.

'Course, you could go all out with the mustache and look like The Edge, or something... but that look's probably fading by now...

This is my second post here.

the mustache is really the only part that bugs me. just annoying. and yet, its the whole key to the goatee. without it, the beard half is less noted, and, thus, i revert to a 14-year-old

Did you go with the Goatee (actually, you were probably thinking of a van dyke)?

Did you shave like a little pussy bitch?

Do you shave your scrotum as well?
Posted By: Mr. Nobody Re: goatee, or not goatee? - 2003-06-11 3:09 PM
Three years later...

I've had a goatee since 1995. The few times I've shaved it off, I notice a few things. 1) I appear to be 15 years old 2) I look happy.

I like to maintain a certain reputation and young and happy ain't doin' it for me.

Plus, when all is said and done, wimmens do dig the goatee.

From the FWIW Department...

I've had facial hair since I was 23, in 1987. I've either worn the full beard, mustache, or goatee. I'm currently going goatee and have for four years. I like it. Most everybody else seems to, too. And I think I look better with facial hair.

Rob, it's a personal decision.

BTW, I think shaved balls is stupid. Shaved chests? Stupid. Shaved legs (on guys)? Stupid.

I've had a full beard since 1977
at age 20, had a moustache since
age 16.

I look VERY young without the beard.
The last time I shaved the beard, I
had just turned 26. I went to a state
store to buy a bottle of champagne to
share with my partner George over
my 26 th birthday. The man at the state
store refused to sell to me because I
did NOT look 21 to him.

" Next time, get a buddy from College
to buy this FOR you! I'm sick of you
High School kids thinking I'm so Stupid
that I'm gonna sell booze to you!"

OUCH. [sad]

Now at 46, I would NEVER shave my
beard. I am quite attached to it and
it is sooo me.

I have this fantasy that
on my 70 th birthday, I'll have
shaved the beard and gone out to buy
champagne, and the man at the liquor
store will say to me:

" Nice try, kid!! making yerself up
to look like an old guy! I'm sick of
you High School kids tryin' to pull
one over on me!! I'm calling your
parents!! "

Keep the goatee, Rob.
It really DOES help one
to look one's age!

:)
