well, a whole buncha shit hasn't really worked in the past. but, i'll keep tryin!

i getta buncha comics free monthly. i'll be willing to send out any book (except the bat-related books, which i likes for me) as long as the recipient does a review.

free books, i say! ...except, of course, the shipping, which you must pay. ... but ... wait, that means they're still free for me! yaay!

anyway, at worst, these'll be much cheaper books for you, since shipping 1-to-25 books is no more than $5.

basically, i'm looking for fun reviews. not necessarily flat out, standard "this is good, this is shit" reviews. more so reviews with personality. some sorta angle. maybe its a brand new book you know nothing about, or maybe its a comparison of a new book to one you have from the late 70s. i dunno, be futzin creative.

nothin is ready to get started yet, but i figured i'd garner some interest first, see if it'll work out.

so uh... yeah. interested?

I enjoy reviewing comics.
Posted By: Prometheus Re: comic book reviews - 2004-09-01 8:49 AM
I like reviewing comics as well. But, I never have an angle, other than...."This is good, and here's why..." or, "This is shit, and you're a dumbass if you like it...".

I just reviewed We3 in the same-titles thread. That's about the extent of my reviewing skills, really.

And, I DO enjoy "Shut the Fuck Up, Fanboy" every time I read it....

So do I. Whatever happened to it?
Posted By: Disco Steve Re: comic book reviews - 2004-09-01 8:56 AM
It comes around every now and again. I want to review "Infinity Gauntlet" next, because I read that recently. Just haven't gotten around to it, yet. Anyone interested in reading this?

Maybe I'll review this small stack of comics on my desk that I got a few days ago, too...
Posted By: Rob Re: comic book reviews - 2004-09-01 6:02 PM
imma big fan of stfu fanboy!

its gotta kick ass name and a nice lil angle ... and its a nice lil break that its normally about older books, rather than new stuff many haven't read yet (tho i'd happily supply some books if you want'em, as mentioned above)
Posted By: Disco Steve Re: comic book reviews - 2004-09-01 7:03 PM
Sweet. What kinda books?
Posted By: Rob Re: comic book reviews - 2004-09-01 7:39 PM
i get me a monthly box of ever comic released by dc (including wildstorm, vertigo, etc). generally, i get the shipment 2-4 weeks after they hit the stands (no complaints here, but important to note for anyone wanting to do reviews based off of my issues).

i sort the stack into "will read" and "wont read", which is about 50-50. then, the "will reads" get stacked into "will keep" and "wont keep," also about 50-50, with the latter being then added to the "wont reads."

so, if the box has 100 books in it, there's roughly 70-75 i disassociate myself with. typically, the rule of thumb on "books i keep" is simply: batman books, and batman related books (jla, guest appearances, etc).

as for the rest, traditionally, i'll donate them to local libraries or even a charity. some, i'll sell on ebay after awhile.

but i'm willing to put them all up for grabs to anyone here who wants to do a review. if you just PM me a shopping list and a article idea, we'll work something out.

I'd be happy to review the Vertigo and Wildstorm stuff on a monthly basis, but I have a feeling shipping all of that to Australia isn't going to be cheap.

Still, perhaps cheaper than buying them all myself.... do you reckon you could find out how much it would cost to send that stuff to Perth? If it works out to be $1 a title or thereabouts, that would be cool.
Posted By: Son of Mxy Re: comic book reviews - 2004-09-02 6:29 AM
I'm willing to pan the extremely bad titles, but I don't have money for the shipping. Howzabout people send me scans?

I can do a longer, more in-depth and regular version of these. And I write fast. I can prolly churn out 3, maybe four articles a day if I don't have take home work.

Reviewing the crap ones would be mildly amusing for a while, but eventually drive me nuts.
Posted By: Son of Mxy Re: comic book reviews - 2004-09-02 1:04 PM
I'm going to start on the Lucifer thing you're sending me. I haven't really written anything that isn't half-assed in months so it'd be good to shake the proverbial rust out.

I'd like to review underrated comics, as I seem to own a lot of those and there's slim chance of anyone else ever reviewing them (I already started with Titans Hunt a while ago). I don't know if I can be consistent, though. It's impossible for me to make weekly reviews.

and thats the goal ... well, the first half of your statement, anyway. to be appealing to someone, even if they're not interested in the book(s) in question -- and to cause conversation and discussions to follow

n'stuff.

i would sooo jump on this opportunity if i thought i could write noteworthy reviews. but alas...
Posted By: wannabuyamonkey Re: comic book reviews - 2004-09-02 9:14 PM
Count me in.... please! I'll even use spell check in my review I promise. I would love to do Vertigo stuff! I would also love to do crappy stuff. I review alot of crappy movies for fun, though I haven't done so here, but most of all (though I assume this is in your keep pile) I would love to do America's best stuff. I currently don't read any wildstorm books (unless you count ABC), but I could give a noobs perspective. I'm currently reviewing the Transfomers books on here, but I don't think anyone's reading it except maybe Jayburg.

I have issue 4 of Mr.T and the T force scanned into my computer. I do have to resize the images however. I'll have to get to it after I replace my cpu. Which burninated out.

Until then I can't do alot of stuff.

I read Infinity Gauntlet not too long ago. I'm not too fond of Starlin's Marvel work so I wouldn't mind bitching about it

Too bad I don't have any money to ever buy comics to review.

the comics are free, my dear. you just pay shipping, which, as said, is like $5 for up to 25 comics. (and there's always a shot at a free playstation!)

its not even that the article has to be a "review," per se. not in the standard sense of "this is good, this was bad." be creative with it.

do a "review in 60 seconds" (like this one for wrestling).

write the review as a character from the book.

review an issue of a comic you know absolutely nothing about.

whatever. creativity is the key.

We can do like a double-review of it. I'll post my review, then you post your take on the book. Then we fight to the death.

I said I'm in.... so when do I get my comics?... seriously I'd put every bit the effort into reviews / articles that I do in the deep thoughts. See you get a 2-fer reviews and analisis and parody AND you sidetrack one of the partisan flame throwers from the Deep thoughts forum.

Ah, I see. I just kinda skimmed the thread and assumed that this is like all your other pleas for people to buy and review their own comics. Now I guess I know what Animalman feels like all the time.

Okay, I'd definitely be all for doing something like this. I'll take any comics that nobody else is wanting or willing to review. Would that be a'ight?
