the premise:
we've selected 64 of comicdom's worst to compete in a battle royale to determine who's ... well... best. you will vote in a series of threads to move the villains to the next round.

your task is to select which character is best (or worst, if that phrasing is more apt) at their job. who is the better villain, a greater menace, a stronger foe. this first round thread features 16 villains in the "dictators" category that you must narrow down to 8 in a single week.

A mass-murderer with noble intentions and condemnable actions.
Ripped the Adamantium from Wolverine's bones.



Mephisto

Held hostage the soul of Dr. Doom's mother for years.
Revels in evil, even more so than his quest for power.



Mojo

Crazed TV-director from another dimension.
Turned the X-Men into babies to earn higher ratings.



Gorilla Grodd

Deposed king of Gorilla City.
Concocted an assassination to convince Gorilla City to war with humanity.



Apocalypse

The first mutant and an immortal.
Turned Angel into the Horseman War, giving him razor wings.



Eclipso

A god of vengeance.
Overtakes those with a hunger for revenge, most recently overcoming Jean Loring.



Darkseid

Ruler of the planet Apokolips.
Seeks the Anti-Life Equation to destroy free will across the universe.



Mongul

Can be likened to an intergalactic Roman Emperor.
Along with The Cyborg destroyed Coast City.



J. Jonah Jameson

Publisher of the Daily Bugle.
Dedicated to discrediting Spider-Man. Created the Spider-Slayers.



Thanos

Genocidal madman.
Briefly held the Infinity Gauntlet to become the most powerful being in the universe.



Doctor Doom

Genius ruler of Latveria.
Sold his old love's soul for greater magical power and armor made from her skin.



Kang the Conqueror

Time-traveling tyrant.
Manipulates the timeline to make his life better at the expense of others.



Ra's Al Ghul

The Demon's Head.
Obsessed with saving the Earth by restarting society through worldwide genocide



Super-Skrull

The Skrull's greatest warrior.
Possesses the powers of the Fantastic Four whom he has repeatedly battled.



Kingpin

Former king of crime in Hell's Kitchen.
Recently revealed Daredevil's secret identity to the world.



Mole Man

Subterranean psychopath.
The FF's first villain, he may look pathetic, but poses an incredible threat.

JJ's kind of an odd option, but I voted for him.

I think it'd be funny if the end result of this was JJ vs. Luthor.

Ra's is my favorite villian. Love 'im.

Didn't know about Dr. Doom and what he did to his ex. That's fucked up.

Magneto was my first choice. Everything else was a toss up.

Mojo works as a super villain in that he can be used by a writer as a satire of something that is overly present in modern culture (ie: reality television). He's an excellent villain if you think about it like that.

Magneto-- [Timeless anti-hero. A man to be both respected and feared]

Grodd-- [Crazy psychopath monkey. Torn between the JLU intelligent version and the crazy flesh eating comics version, who seems to have rabies]

Apocalypse-- [Unstoppable mutant who has planned his ascension since the days of ancient Egypt. From the virus he infected Cable with at birth, to his relationship with Mr. Sinister, to the Age of Apocalypse]

Thanos-- [Wondering nomad plotting the end of reality itself. Practically unstoppable, and played the anti-hero part in Marvel: The End and his own series quite well]

Doom-- [Doom is a force of nature. He rules his own country with an iron fist, and his ascension by trading in his ex-lover was beautiful]

Kang-- [No real reason, he's just a constant thron in the Avengers' side and I find him amusing.]

Ra's-- [Batmans deadliest foe. Ra's is one of the best villains ever concieved, and his motives are very sound indeed]

Kingpin-- [90's cartoon, his control over NY, and even his fall from grace in Bendis' Daredevil run]
