Elevation Partners acquires Eidos Quote:
UK publisher accepts $135 million bid from US venture capital firm partly run by Irish rocker Bono.
Just one day after the well-regarded British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported that Eidos was being pursued by SCi Entertainment, Reuters is reporting the publisher has been sold...to a totally different company. The wire service is reporting that late today, Eidos accepted an offer from Elevation Partners. Headed by a board of directors that includes U2 lead singer Bono, Elevation Partners has been a rumored Eidos buyer for several months, along with French publisher Ubisoft and now SCi.
According to Reuters, Elevation Partners made Eidos an offer it couldn't refuse: 71 million pounds ($135 million) in cash, or 50p ($0.95) per share. The price was more than 5p ($0.095) higher than the 44.75p ($0.85) at which Eidos' stock closed on Monday, following a surge sparked by the Telegraph article.
The Reuters article revealed Eidos had been entertaining a 53p ($1.00) per share offer earlier this month from an unnamed buyer. However, the looming March 25 deadline for future financing set by Eidos' primary lender, the Royal Bank of Scotland, apparently forced the company to accept a less-favorable deal. The pressure was no doubt accelerated by the six-month earnings report issued last week, which outlined how the company suffered a 26.5 million pound ($50.23 million) operating loss.
For its part, Eidos was largely mum on the transaction. "The board firmly believes that shareholders' interests are best served by a sale of the company," company chairman John van Kuffeler said in a statement. American representatives of the company declined to further comment.

I think Bono is just partial to the Tomb Raider franchise. U2 used Lara images on the screen for the Pop! tour (great fucking show!), and were eager to do a song for the sound track to the original film. Bono has been interviewed a couple of times that I can recall in articles about the popularity of the franchise.
Perhaps having a fan at the helm will mean bright things for Lara's future.

  I saw them in 2000 for the Elevation tour......it was my third time seeing them live......they only get better and better with age.....it is scary.....they keep this up they will become one of the top 5 bands ever if they aren't already.........so rex.....I don't agree with the guys politics all the time but you can't let that keep you from listening to them.....it will be your loss.

Maybe. Like I said, he's a long time fan of Lara...so you know some love will get thrown her way (I'm almost certain this was his reason for aquiring the company).
But it could just end up like when Jimenez tried to write Wonder Woman. He's probably her biggest fan, but he didn't know shit about what it takes to write a good comic book. If Bono can't work out a good gaming scenario, all the love in the world for Lara can't help him turn out a good game.

What has Bono said that was so bad?
Sure, he's political, but he's written some of the most important songs of the last quarter century, most of which deal with problems in his own country(like "In the name of Love" and "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"), and most of his other political causes are AIDS research and *gasp* helping the poor. What's wrong with that?
I see so much general criticism of any celebrity that tries to voice their opinion, without any real explanation or account of what they did that was so egregious.

I think U2's recent stuff is too "pop", and lacks the substance that made the band great in the 80's. That vertigo song sounds a lot better in the iPod commercial(where they edit it a good bit) than it does on the radio, to me.
