Frank McCormick robbed Johnny Mize of the MVP in 1940, mainly because the Reds won 100 games, while Mize's Cardinals finished in third place. It was one of the worst oversights in MVP voting history. Mize never won an MVP, despite being deserving every year from '38 through '42(and '47 and '48, as well). This very nearly kept him out of the Hall of Fame, as he didn't make it until the Veterans Committee put him in nearly 30 years after he retired, and only due to a campaign from the New York media who remembered him fondly as a bench hitter during his twilight years under Casey Stengel. Mize had numbers comparable to Joe DiMaggio's(and similar playing records; both came up in '36, lost three years to WWII, and finished their careers as teammates on the Yankees), but a variety of factors beyond his control obscured his greatness.

Jim Jackson the basketball player went to Ohio State, thus the impetus for my long-held suspicion that he and our JJ were one and the same. I kept asking him why he and Jason Kidd never could make things work in Dallas. It's my greatest regret as a Mavericks fan.
My theory would certainly explain the Jim Tressel obsession.

As an addendum, blame the NL MVP voters back in 1940. How can McCormick have "robbed" anyone when he didn't have a vote in that race.
