Stuey-

I just got back from a MAJORmidwest coaster tour. A couple of weeks ago. We started at Holiday World for Stark Raven Mad, which was INCREDIBLE (I had already ridden both the Raven and the Legend, but NOTHING could have prepared me for the experience of riding both of them in PITCH-BLACK darkness. I haven't ridden Ghost Rider yet, so I can't rank it, but the Raven and the Legend are my two favorite coasters, hands down. Then, we spent a two-day FUN FRENZY at CEDAR POINT... we got two rides on Top Thrill Dragster, and 3 rides on MILLENIUM FORCE, one in the front. There is nothing like the sheer freedom and rush of adrenaline, testosterone, whatever hormone you can think of-they're all pumping in that front seat! WAH-HOO!!! We rode everything else too.

Then, we went to King's Island, and it was... ehhh... part of the letdown had to do with just having come from Cedar Point, but honestly... Beast and Son of Beast aren't all that.

Then we had to go home, [eh... i dunno... ] stopping for a few hours at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom on the way home.

In four words? GO TO CEDAR POINT!!!!!!!!!!

Cedar Point is the Mack-Daddy of all roller coaster parks--- just the best, hands down! [humina humina]

My favorite type of steel coaster at the moment is floorless -- Medusa at Marine World was DA BOMB. (I'd like to try Kraken at Sea World sometime, too.)

I have to agree that Medusa is great, Vertical Velocity is a great ride as well if you've never checked it out.

I am SOOOOOOOOO jealous! [gulp!]

I've been wanting to try the Raven and the Legend for a really long time now -- unfortunately, I'm just never in that part of the country. I'd also wanted to stop by Lake Compounce for Boulder Dash when I was up in CT a few weeks ago, but it was a bit too much out of the way. The best woodies I've been on in the last couple of years are Wildcat and Lightning Racer at Hersheypark -- Lightning Racer is smooth as buttah and the racing aspect actually enhances the ride 100%. Plus, the "millennium flyer"-type seating (also found on Marine World's version of Roar, which is good) probably helps a lot -- it looks damn cool, and also helps prevent a lot of unnecessary knee-bashing.

I can kind of imagine how Beast and Son of Beast might be a bit of a letdown after Cedar Point. In particular, I've heard that Beast is beloved primarily because it's so old and venerable (and long, of course), not that it's necessarily all that...

I didn't get a chance to check out VV, unfortunately -- due to my usual problem of going to parks with people who aren't as *ahem* fond of coasters as I am, and also working with certain time constraints. *sigh*

As great as Medusa is, it's even better in the front seat -- I think floorless coasters benefit the most from a frontseat vantage point. It's really like you're flying over the rails of your own volition (and those rails seem REALLY close to your feet, such that it's almost like having a constant foot-chopper effect throughout the whole ride).

I'll have to keep that in mind the next time I go to ride the Medusa. Generally when I head there I'm with a total coaster freak who wants to just ride everything over, and over, and over... Which is fine except for the lines.

Sunny San Diego, CA (which is ironic considering both my name and lifestyle)!

BTW, anyone coming to Comic-Con this year?
