So much for more rumors on which specific role that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play in the third installment of Christopher Nolan's rebooted Batman trilogy. Mere hours after the Inception actor was confirmed as signing a deal for a part in the next film, Variety has followed up with the specific role that Levitt will be playing. And it will not be Robin, the Riddler or Deadshot as some rumors have been speculating these past few weeks.

The trade reports that insiders reveal that Josepth Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, the character Tom Wilkinson played in "Batman Begins."

Alberto Falcone, who is also known as The Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan's superhero trilogy full-circle. The character fits with the helmer's stated intentions for continuity and preference to pit the Caped Crusader against "realistic" villains, as opposed to cartoonish nemeses such as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, who Batman battled in Joel Schumacher's 1997 misfire "Batman and Robin."

Even the trades and their mostly studio-provided press releases get it wrong sometimes. We're not saying this is the case in regards to Joseph Gordon-Levitt's confirmed casting for The Dark Knight Rises but Entertainment Weekly is certainly suggesting it with the role that was reportedly his. Last Friday, the trade confirmed the ongoing rumors that the Inception star would be hopping on board Chrisopher Nolan's third Batman installment and then later followed up their own story by saying that Levitt will play Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia Boss Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) and future Holiday Killer.

Well, the latter part may not be true as of yet.

EW reports that while Levitt is indeed joining the production, he's not set just as Falcone. So let the various blogs out there (and you Maniacs) continue speculation on whether the actor would indeed play another character such as The Riddler or Deadshot in this wrap-up of Nolan's trilogy.

Despite a recent production location change from Chicago to Pittsburgh for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, the fictional city of Gotham lives on and genre fans will see its top politician return in the fast-tracking third installment. Variety reports that Nestor Carbonell ("LOST", The Dark Knight) has been officially set to reprise the role of the Mayor of Gotham. The trade also reports that Diego Klattenhoff and Burn Gorman are also being eyed for supporting roles as well.

I wonder if the hispanic woman cop who betrays Gordon in The Dark Knight was originally supposed to be Montoya, but DC asked Nolan to change it. She did have her own book at the time, or at least plans to launch it.

I thought it WAS Montoya! Didn't worry about the name. The fact they're using a Hispanic female of the same age, looks, position, etc., of course it's Montoya.
