Don't change a character, especially a decades old one like Alan Scott.

Create a new character, or add a layer to one who never had that.

I'm sure there are tons of charterers who've never addressed their sexuality in any way to choose to be a gay character if you have a story you want to tell.

Don't do it just to do it.
