Have they announced yet that there will be a West Coast team and an East Coast team? That's what I figured this whole Civil War thing will lead into, but I'm sure I'm waaaaay behind the curve ball on this one.

Well, there's going to be two titles out, "New Avengers" and "The Mighty Avengers", so, I'd guess it's the same thing without using the coastal designations...

According to Bendis himself in many interviews and comments, it was never his decision to put Wolverine in there. And, if you have read any of the New Avengers run so far, it's obvious. I wouldn't mind is the character disappeared from ALL books for about two or three years. And, just when the limitations of his copyright is about to expire due to no use, Marvel could slam an "Event" on us about the "Return of Wolverine". Oh, yeah, definitely give the Joker the rest.
As far as completely banishing Wolvie for a few years from ALL books, it won't happen, any more than it would happen with Superman, Batman or Spidey. Wolverine is one of the marquee names. He sells books.
At the same time, I think Marvel needs to do with Wolverine what DC did with Batman for a while in the 80s, namely, limit his use in team books for a while until a writer comes up with a plausible, or semi-plausible, way to explain why he'd hang out with a group of anyone but outcasts.
Oh, and thanks for answering my question about Bendis. I did not know that.

So far,aside from Wolverine,they're leaving the big names out of the lineup.......unless they somehow work Cap into it(which I doubt).I just don't get an Avengers vibe from this group yet.

That's sorta what I figured from the start. Instead of stemming from a North/South division it would end in a West/East division.
Maybe they're not calling it that or even doing it at all since there will be a Titans West and Titans East (though the latter will be villains).

1965 - Captain America, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch & Hawkeye!
Not one super strong one in the bunch... until Goliath rejoined, almost a year later.. and then the Wasp, and after that, Hercules joined the group for the very first time.
So, maybe this new line up will change soon.

Yes but that was when the Avengers, and all Marvel characters were not big names!
Spiderman, Hulk, Thor & Iron Man etc were all still fledgling characters, so who was to say that Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver were not the next big thing?
Captain America was the only character in the Marvel universe at the time, who was a legitimate "marquee" name!
Now days, having a superteam like The Avengers or JLA without the top guns is almost unheard of!
The last time anyone tried something like this, and I think is more comparable, is Justice League Detroit!

If I was gonna create two teams of Avengers, I'd make it for the US & Europe rather than East/West coast!
They could really make it a Euro international team, without overloading it with American members or making up new characters.
I'd go with Captain Britain as team leader by getting him back to how Alan Davis represented him before he joined Excalibur (this of course would mirror the US team if Captain America was the leader).
I'd get Blitzkreig to represent Germany.
Hercules to represent Greece, and of course he is a legitimate Avenger.
Black Knight has a history in the UK, and with Cap Britain, so despite being a Yank, he would fit perfectly as the second legit Avenger!
For my first female member, I'd go with Irelands Siryn.
Second female would be Valkyrie for her Viking heritage!
I was thinking of Thor initially, but I think is make things a bit weird when you have a member based in a Euro team who has their own book, which is based in the USA!
Creates all kinda conflicts!
Plus I needed more females on the team, and Herc and Thor are too similar!
Of course they could throw in someone like Quicksilver as well, as he has Romanian roots!

I had considered Pete Wisdom as well, but just thought he wouldnt fit as an actual member.
I tried to avoid X characters who were/are X-Men or were members of Excalibur alongside Cap (so no Nightcrawler) as I felt that would be overkill with Wolverine being in the US based team!
Siryn though fitted quite a few criteria.
Is Irish, is female, has different powers than the rest of the team & wasnt a member of the big X team (unless of course that change since I stopped reading).

Oh, and obviously I ripped off the idea from JLI, but thats also why I didnt wanna overload it with non-Eurpeans or people with their own books.
Look how they fucked up with Wonder Woman by making her a member, then realised the couldnt use her because her own title made it too difficult to have her be two places at once!
