Dude, only 3 % or so of the refined oil products goes to produce plastics and other petrochemical products (explosives, dyes etc). Long before the price of plastics will rise due to the (over)consumption of gasoline, diesel and other fuels, more of the oil's content will be used for plastics. Besides, scientists are inventing new kinds of plastics made of cellulose (from plants).
I agree that LP's won't be as popular as they used to be, but there will always be fans of the technology.
