You motherfucks should be watching this show. Unfortunately, this season is the last, but it's built up rather nicely and I can't wait until everything blows up in everyone's faces. Personally, I think this show is far and away better than The Sopranos ever was.
Season Five covers the life of the hoods, the cops, the school district, the mayoral cabinet and now, the media... notably The Baltimore Sun. A loooot of plotlines, but they all are interwoven and seemless.
You can't jump in without knowing at least the last two seasons, but if you have On Demand, you can watch all of Season Four (the best yet) and the prequels and number Five so far (three episodes in).
