Yeah. The only issue is that I already own Episode 1 and I have a bootlegged copy of HL2 itself (it just showed up on my hard drive one day, honest), so I'm not sure how I feel about paying for/acquiring the same game(s) more than once. But you're totally right about the value, especially looking at TF2

No, I was mainly unhappy about having to pay for Episode One twice. The HL2 bootleg is missing some textures and there's at least one buggy script that dumps me to desktop. It'd be nice to have a working copy of it, even if I have to pay this time.
I just realized I never played the first game. I'm looking at steam right now to see what kind of package they have for that one.

Half-Life: Source is supposed to be identical to the first game, just reworked with the engine from the second. I'll admit that's pretty tempting.

If you never played Half Life 2 then this is absolutely essential gaming. The campaign is around 12-15 hours long and is one of the best in recent memory. It should also run a damn sight better than the awful Xbox port.
Half Life 2: Episodes 1 + 2 - Episode One was released for PC a few years ago and is ported with the same improvements to lighting and textures that the original Half Life 2 has received. It is the first of 3 sequels to HL2 and has a campaign that clocks in at around 6+ hours.
Episode 2 is brand new for both PC and console so wil undoubtedly be the best looking of the three. It's campaign will be similar in length to Episode 1 and the story will start exactly where Episode 1 finished.
Portal - A first-person-puzzle game. Basically you have a gun that can create a portal
which can teleport you and objects around complex puzzles. It's hard to properly explain so I recommend watching the trailer at the official site.
Team Fortress 2 - The multiplayer game of the pack. Team Fortress 2 is a team and team based shooter where you are assigned a role and must tactically use your character to the best of their abilities.
There are nine classes which are, Medic, Engineer, Sniper, Spy, Heavy Weapons, Demo-man, Pyro, Soldier and Scout.

They are the new 1280p plates, so assuming you have the latest nVidia drivers, they should.
(1280p as opposed to 1080p, which is for those unfortunate console players who still think console graphics can go toe to toe with PC graphics)
Finally gave this a go...
It takes a few levels before it gets good, but it does become pretty fun (Half Life 2)
I don't know if this is true of the PC version, but the game does have an annoying auto-aim (or something that can be described as close to an auto-aim) on any level that uses a vehicle.
Still a pretty good game, but I wouldn't rate it a 98%...I'm going to bump up the difficulty to see if that makes it more interesting.
You only get aiming assistance on easy difficulty in the PC version.
Yeah? It only seems to happen on vehicle stuff. I'll be riding along, and one of those creepy crawly things comes out of the sand and tries to attack me, and my reticule magically goes to it...
The antlions aren't too bad by themselves, but they can stack up on you really quickly.
Yeah...certain weapons seem to work better against them than others, too.
I also just read that the console version of The Orange Box does indeed have auto aim for vehicles, which of course sucks and is gay...
I'd imagine you can toggle it off somehow. Maybe.

This shit is going to keep me busy for a long time. I'm downloading the original half-life so I can get the story so far. This is my new obsession.

They're going to offer the individual Orange Box games on retail discs shortly, most likely at Steam prices.
Why? If you can get the game at home, download it and burn backups of the GCFs, why go and buy it for the same price?

On the 360, they added some bullshit auto-aim for the sections with vehicles (dune buggy type thing).
Probably had to since the controls were off from the PC version.
Since I'm not getting a computer anytime soon, I'll just have to overlook that and be happy with everything else the game has to offer...
Play through Portal first. Most people can play it in five hours or less and it really is the best game thats come out recently.
