Coming very soon to multiple platforms...

Anyone else thinking about buying this? It'll be interesting to see how the various HL2 titles play on consoles. I think I will end up buying a new video card when I get this though...
Posted By: rex Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 5:28 AM
I want it but I'm not sure if my computer will run it that well.

Five games for 50-60 is too good to pass on.
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 5:48 AM
Yeah. The only issue is that I already own Episode 1 and I have a bootlegged copy of HL2 itself (it just showed up on my hard drive one day, honest), so I'm not sure how I feel about paying for/acquiring the same game(s) more than once. But you're totally right about the value, especially looking at TF2
Posted By: rex Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 6:28 AM
So you're bitching about paying for a game you stole?
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 6:44 AM
No, I was mainly unhappy about having to pay for Episode One twice. The HL2 bootleg is missing some textures and there's at least one buggy script that dumps me to desktop. It'd be nice to have a working copy of it, even if I have to pay this time.
Posted By: rex Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 10:52 AM
I just realized I never played the first game. I'm looking at steam right now to see what kind of package they have for that one.
Posted By: rex Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 10:54 AM
$99.95 for every half life related game.

$15 for the first one, I'm gonna get that.
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 3:31 PM
Half-Life: Source is supposed to be identical to the first game, just reworked with the engine from the second. I'll admit that's pretty tempting.
Posted By: rex Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 3:36 PM
Their site is down so I won't be getting anything for now.
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-09-27 10:52 PM
Probably a lot of people had the same idea you did.

 Quote:
Half Life 2 - A beautiful port of the award winning PC game with lovely new lighting and textures (so it doesn't look too dated when compared to the rest of the box's contents). If you never played Half Life 2 then this is absolutely essential gaming. The campaign is around 12-15 hours long and is one of the best in recent memory. It should also run a damn sight better than the awful Xbox port.

Half Life 2: Episodes 1 + 2 - Episode One was released for PC a few years ago and is ported with the same improvements to lighting and textures that the original Half Life 2 has received. It is the first of 3 sequels to HL2 and has a campaign that clocks in at around 6+ hours.
Episode 2 is brand new for both PC and console so wil undoubtedly be the best looking of the three. It's campaign will be similar in length to Episode 1 and the story will start exactly where Episode 1 finished.

Portal - A first-person-puzzle game. Basically you have a gun that can create a portal
which can teleport you and objects around complex puzzles. It's hard to properly explain so I recommend watching the trailer at the official site.

Team Fortress 2 - The multiplayer game of the pack. Team Fortress 2 is a team and team based shooter where you are assigned a role and must tactically use your character to the best of their abilities.
There are nine classes which are, Medic, Engineer, Sniper, Spy, Heavy Weapons, Demo-man, Pyro, Soldier and Scout.

I would have had a comprehensive first-hand review for you guys by now, but I had to choose between buying the Orange Box or renewing my license plates. \:\(

Write a review of buying your license plates...
Posted By: Son of Mxy Re: The Orange Box - 2007-10-21 2:25 AM
are those license plates going to run smoothly on my system?
Posted By: MisterJLA Re: The Orange Box - 2007-10-21 2:35 AM
Nicely played.
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-10-21 3:39 AM
They are the new 1280p plates, so assuming you have the latest nVidia drivers, they should.
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-10-21 3:40 AM
(1280p as opposed to 1080p, which is for those unfortunate console players who still think console graphics can go toe to toe with PC graphics)
Posted By: MisterJLA Re: The Orange Box - 2007-10-21 4:45 AM
Double nicely played!

Posted By: MisterJLA Re: The Orange Box - 2007-11-01 8:09 AM
Finally gave this a go...

It takes a few levels before it gets good, but it does become pretty fun (Half Life 2)

I don't know if this is true of the PC version, but the game does have an annoying auto-aim (or something that can be described as close to an auto-aim) on any level that uses a vehicle.

Still a pretty good game, but I wouldn't rate it a 98%...I'm going to bump up the difficulty to see if that makes it more interesting.
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-11-01 6:47 PM
You only get aiming assistance on easy difficulty in the PC version.
Posted By: MisterJLA Re: The Orange Box - 2007-11-01 9:18 PM
Yeah? It only seems to happen on vehicle stuff. I'll be riding along, and one of those creepy crawly things comes out of the sand and tries to attack me, and my reticule magically goes to it...
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-11-02 12:52 AM
The antlions aren't too bad by themselves, but they can stack up on you really quickly.
Posted By: MisterJLA Re: The Orange Box - 2007-11-02 1:07 AM
Yeah...certain weapons seem to work better against them than others, too.

I also just read that the console version of The Orange Box does indeed have auto aim for vehicles, which of course sucks and is gay...
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-11-02 2:27 AM
I'd imagine you can toggle it off somehow. Maybe.
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2007-11-09 6:01 AM
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I may quite possibly have just purchased this title.

you will have to tell us how addictive tf2 is compared to wow.
Posted By: rex Re: The Orange Box - 2007-12-28 10:53 AM
This fucker came with seven games. Half-life 2, half-life 2 episodes 1 and and 2, the lost coast, peggle extreme, and portal.

This shit is going to keep me busy for a long time. I'm downloading the original half-life so I can get the story so far. This is my new obsession.

OMFG! I was talking about three of the Orange Box games (HL2, CSS and The Lost Coast) around two years ago and everybody just bought into the Halo 2 bullshit. It isn't until they hit the 360 and have new new additions for a minuscule price do you console heathens take notice!
Posted By: PCG342 Re: The Orange Box - 2008-02-06 4:35 AM
They're going to offer the individual Orange Box games on retail discs shortly, most likely at Steam prices.

Why? If you can get the game at home, download it and burn backups of the GCFs, why go and buy it for the same price?
Well, unless you didn't have a credit card, of course.

Don't worry Anonymous. I never bought in into Halo2 OR HL.
Posted By: Nöwheremän Re: The Orange Box - 2008-02-06 5:22 AM
Yeah cause its not like people on consoles havent had more than its fair share of FPS games!

And just for the record, I played the first HL and hated it!

TWAT: special edition!

the muhFUCKin Orange Box[RAWK!] for 360 and ps3 is on sale this week for $39.99! this is affordable as it's been yet so now might be a good time to give the game a look if you haven't already.
Posted By: MisterJLA Re: The Orange Box - 2008-02-25 10:20 AM
I'm picking this up by the end of the weekend!

(Still too bad that they FUCKED with the auto-aim on the vehicles, but that's the way it goes...)
Posted By: rex Re: The Orange Box - 2008-02-25 10:31 AM
PC or console?
Posted By: MisterJLA Re: The Orange Box - 2008-02-25 10:10 PM
On the 360, they added some bullshit auto-aim for the sections with vehicles (dune buggy type thing).

Probably had to since the controls were off from the PC version.

Since I'm not getting a computer anytime soon, I'll just have to overlook that and be happy with everything else the game has to offer...
Posted By: rex Re: The Orange Box - 2008-02-26 1:17 AM
Play through Portal first. Most people can play it in five hours or less and it really is the best game thats come out recently.
Posted By: Captain Sammitch Re: The Orange Box - 2008-02-26 2:07 AM
yeah, portal is aweshome.

PC and PS3 both have it for £12, and 360 is £14.
