I'm curious (no curious jokes jim jackson), are wonder woman and the legion the official "gay" superheroes???

It seems to have come up a lot lately and was just wondering...
Posted By: LLance Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-04 2:30 AM
Piggie...YOU really need to come out of the Pig Cave every so often! Plus you missed one...

Wotta Woman, Gay Legion, and butt-fucking Batman are the gayest of the gay in comics!
Posted By: Pig Iran Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-04 2:31 AM
Forgot about Batman...

Wonder Woman has become very popular among gays. Her show is even syndicated on gay TV stations.

Understandable Piggie...once you jerk off all of your adolescence to a buff guy in a rubber Bat-suit he does become somewhat forgettable.

I never really liked batman except for the tv show... I jerked off to black widow and scarlet witch...

Oh my oh my Piggie...no wonder you're in love with my AdamWest ID! How sad for you...

And why I love you LLance...I still have the fondest memories of those days in Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Then never start off a topic like this with the phrase, "I'm curious..."

I can't comment on WW. I have almost never cared for her.

The Legion...we touched on this in a LEGION thread in the Comics forum, but we can revisit it.

The Legion, being set in the future and presenting a concept of inclusiveness to alien races (both in the LoSH and in the UFP), is a natural attractor to us gays. This has been reinforced IRL by comments by Jim Shooter than Element Lad was gay (although it's thought that Levitz created Schvaughn Erin to specifically put that idea to rest). And of course, there was the Ayla-Vi relationship in TMK's Legion.

The Legion presents a univsere where humanity has overcome so many of its social ills, so naturally gays hope that that means any anti-gay bias as well.

The Grell-drawn hunky men in the 70s didn't hurt the young gay libido either.

Aaahhhh....makes sense.

Why give him the serious answer he should have already know Jim Jackson? You should have called him a bitch and acused him of getting head in dark alleys behind gay bars when he gets beer drunk instead!

Why should I, when you did it so eloquently?

It would have sounded so much better cumming from you Big Jim!

from moderating the DCMBs, the legion and wonder woman forums are the two big gay communities. at least for the DCU. the titans, nightwing, and a few other spots serve (heyoo) as the minor hangouts.

vertigo makes up the other locals, mostly ever since ... some other book. i can't think of the name now, it was cancelled a year or so ago, but it was some super hot chick that was often naked, like a "danger girl," but it was only her.

Thanks, Rob. But that doesn't address WHY they are the "gay hangouts."
Posted By: Rob Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-04 8:35 PM
i know. i was just addressing which forums seemed to have the larger gay followings, since "which titles" appeared to be part of the discussion.

i honestly couldn't really tell ya why there is such a collective attraction to certain titles.

wonder woman might make a little more sense, particularly with some of her recent creators being openly gay. but legion and titans? guh dunno.

Amazing book, that! I loved this one and was genuinely pissed off when I had to read the resolution of the plot as a series of posts by Rodi on the DCMB's...travesty if there ever was one. Now the 'final issues' in my collection are just a couple pages of print-out.
Posted By: Rob Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-04 9:27 PM
rodi is a really cool guy, too. very loyal to his fans.
Posted By: klinton Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-04 9:30 PM
And to answer the initial question...I wish the gay community wasn't so attatched to Wonder Woman. It'd be nice if you could go to the WW board and not have to find yourself reading fawning faggoty posts (in between the 'I hate the current team because they don' t do exactly as I say')...I think that stigma keeps a lot of potential fans away. I wish they'd totally sex up the book for a bit just to shake some of those 'fans'.

Totally. It was really cool that he did that for us. If the publisher wasn't going to let him do it, he still gave the story to the fans!

Klinton you should read Age of Bronze because Shanower is gay and I say so..buy that book...best.indy.book.ever.
Posted By: klinton Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-05 12:34 AM
I didn't read Knockout for Go-go...I read it inspite of him. I just like Rodi. His novels are fucking hilarious (Fag Hag...about a girl who kidnaps her gay best friend and locks him in her basement...fucking hysterical), as is most of his comic work.
Posted By: Matter-eater Man Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-05 3:03 AM
I'm gay, I like the Legion but beyond what JJ said I dunno why it's a gay magnet. Interestingly enough there have been quite a few straight marriages that began in Legion fandom. So it might pay off if some of you boys knew that Lightning Lads last name was Ranzz & he comes from the planet Winnath!
Posted By: Pig Iran Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-05 3:05 AM
I know...

i like his sister though..and shadow lass, and dream girl, and saturn girl, and supergirl, and ..wait..sorry..
Posted By: Matter-eater Man Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-05 3:25 AM
If you have all your limbs or at least most of them, there is probably a [bold]female[/bold] Legion fan who is surrounded by good looking gay guys but would be more interested with your knowledge of Light Lass & Phantom Girl. You of course need to start buying the title to stay current of course.

I agree! All those dead Asian trannies and Michael Jackson still insists on molesting children!

WW is just kitsch like Judy Garland and Kylie Minogue are, isn't she?

Legion is pretty kitsch too.

That's nothing specific to WW. Go to any board and you'll find posters who gripe that they dislike what the current team's doing because it isn't what they want LOL.

I don't see the Legion as being kitsch. If it truly was, why the revamps & changes? As for the others, their merchandice falls into the kitsch category but Garland & Minogue had/have talent that rises above kitsch. My collection of WW figures however beautiful they look on the shelf, is definitley kitsch.

Why's it a gay word?
Posted By: LLance Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-09 12:41 AM
Oh my! How sad...the gay man doesn't recognize his own adopted verbage. Cum out of the closet Jim! Cum out of the closet! And start lisping in all of your communications or I'll have Rob ban your gay butt!
Posted By: Jim Jackson Re: Question For Gay Folks - 2005-04-09 12:50 AM
I'm a very atypical gay man.

I like sports.

I don't know shit about Liza, Cher, Barbra, Patti LuPone, or Judy.

I could live in tee shirts, sneakers, and shorts if weather permitted.

I don't shave anything other than my face.

And I didn't get the Guide To Gay Vocabulary when I joined the group.

I don't see it as a gay word either. I would guess most people have some stuff that falls into the kitsch category. (tacky crap with no practical use) I'm curious what would make one title like the Legion kitsch over other titles (Batman, Spiderman) or are comic books themselves kitsch?

Is that the book that has a transexual character in it?

Or am I getting it and the story of Pariah's love life mixed up?
