Wow, I had no idea the 1940s were so extreme...

Baton and/or nunchucks? Jim Lee is ripping off Marvel's Moon Knight? A character often claimed to be a Batman rip-off?

Yeah, you'd think the point of reviving Earth-2 would be to please the fans of the Golden Age comics.

If they want to make Earth-2 "extreme", just give Batman the damn Browning (which he only used once, and carried in one or two covers)*, make Superman beat wife-beaters and war profiteers, and make Wonder Woman a bondage/femdom mistress.

*I guess allowing him to smoke a pipe would be *too* extreme. Also, give his autogyro/monoplane a machine gun, because that is extreme... \:whoa\:

He's supposed to kill someone to save his daughter. I think it might be Liam Wayne.

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I do have money. A shitload of it, in fact. I make Scrooge McDuck look like a fucking pauper. But what I also have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. I'm the goddamn Batman."

Actually I don't think it's set in the 40's exclusively.I'm guessing that the teased images and the fact that Huntress and Power Girl are from Earth-2 but end up in the main DCU and the image showed Helena as Earth-2 Robin and PG as Supergirl makes me believe that these are the children/grandchildren of the GA JSA from Earth-2. Pure speculation on my part but that's what I'm going with.

We'll see.

Is this the same Karen Starr from Mister Terrific?
Posted By: allan1 Re: Earth-2 Batman - 2012-02-27 9:58 PM
Nope.
Posted By: iggy Re: Earth-2 Batman - 2012-02-27 10:01 PM
So, now there are two Karens on New 52 Earth-One? Just one is a super-powered Kryptonian nd the other is a CEO?
Posted By: allan1 Re: Earth-2 Batman - 2012-02-27 10:21 PM
Well that's the thing....it may be her,but nothing in Mister Terrific suggested that it is her outside of her name, but the Huntress mini revealed that Helena is from Earth-2 and World's Finest solicit doesn't say whether or not they both arrived at the same time or separately from Earth-2.Soooooo it could be her in Mr.Terrific or it could be a non-powered CEO Karen Starr and this is Kara Zor-El only....which,since the WF solicit image shows her to be/have been Supergirl on Earth-2 is just that.....another Supergirl with no Karen Starr identity.
My head hurts just from typing that.

Ditto for reading it, too. I would hope for a decent explanation from DC regarding the matter, but this is DC we're talking about. Considering Mister Terrific was cancelled they may even Max Lord her appearance in that book.

True...World's Finest and Earth-2 both are in this month's Previews both for May 2nd ship date so we'll see.

Jesus Hannibal Christ, why can't they just make comic books that are fun to read without circle jerking over continuity?

Yes (the upcoming reveal comes in MT #8 according to Levitz)

As far as a killing Bats goes, I'm cool with that (he used guns in the GA and in First Wave just like the Crimson Avenger and Manhunter/Paul Kirk did during the GA... heck, all three of them debuted in Detective Comics around the same time)

Not to mention snapping necks (and possibly cashing checks), throwing guys off of buildings, and hanging giant mutants by the neck from his gyrocopter.

That is true, but remember, all of that happened in 1939-40. After that, Batman *totally* never killed (according to the writers and editors). This was not just about "thinking of the children" (though it was certainly a factor), but also to make Batman look less like The Shadow. The Golden Age extends to at least around 1950 (depending on whether you have an Atomic Age between the Golden Age and the Silver Age).

But as I previously said, let this new Earth-2 Batman have a gun, as long as Superman is not flying, and Wonder Woman is tying me... er, some evil-doer up, I mean. \:-\[

There is one form of revisionism I like to see, though, and that is if we're going to have a Robin in Earth-2 (and that is a big if IMHO), give him some frakking pants. Or, I dunno, *something* to cover his legs.

If that's actually Dick Grayson and the Wonder Woman in the other promo image is Donna, then I like the idea. Leave one Earth stagnant and make the other move forward.

It was mostly about not getting the magazines pulled from newsstands due to violent content, which wound up happening in the 50's. Read 'Men of Tomorrow'. It's a very good look into the goings on of the American comic book industry of the time.

Earth 2 Robin by Kevin Maguire. James Robinson says it's Helena Wayne as seen on the World's Finest #1 cover.

Confirmed in Mister Terrific 7, Karen Starr in that book is indeed the Peege we'll get in May. Apparently, she was using Colt to get a hold of Quantum Tunneling technology. At least, I hope, he got to play with her tits.
