Just watched it finally (You all can stop bugging me about it).

I thought it was more like 1984 then F451. It would have been better if the fight scenes were more realistic and not trying to be a matrix rip off snooze fest (yeah, I said it).

I think that should be the quote on the cover instead of "Forget the Matrix"

1984 had a good, brutal ending, but it didn't really show people how to beat the system. Obviously, Orwell's message was 'don't create that sort of a world in the first place'.

Orwells message in 1984 was "oh my god I'm dying of a horrible disease so I'm gonna write the most depressing piece of shit ever created".

I think the longest he's lasted was in Patriot Games. He died near the end of that one.

um...this is a short list...

Lady Chatterly (he also ran around naked for a while...that movie was a favorite for me and the girl's 'Saturday Nite Wine and Chocolate')

Black Beauty (okay, he was only in it for fifteen minutes)

The rest are listed on the 'Death By Cow' page. Those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head.

Isn't Lady Chatterly that soft core porno book you wanted me to read?

...did I recommend it? I can't remember.

The thing about Lady Chatterly is that the movie was actually better than the book. Lawrence wrote three different versions (two are incomplete, the third is what's read in college-level literature classes). And all three versions are different. I read the first two incomplete ones and didn't like the third version (she has another affair in it, which totally takes away the impact of her affair with the gamekeeper). The movie actually took all three versions and mixed them up, so what you get is a movie that's better than any one of the books.

And yeah, it's soft core porn. There's actually a 'phallic speech' or something in the middle of it. Quite funny, actually.

The Sean Bean Lady Chatterly adaptation was not a film!
It was a tv series.

It might have been converted to a movie for DVD or international release, but it certainly was not a movie to start with!
Cant remember how many episodes there were, but it was probably only 2 or 3.

As for films he has not died in, I know he survived in When Saturday comes, and as he was in the sequels, I assume he didnt die in at least 2 LOTR films!

To get the thread somewhat back on topic....

I'm watching the commentary track and the the director explains how his movie is not a rip off of F-451, 1984 and other movies. He says F-451 is about McCarthyism (I say its about censorship but its basically the same theme) and 1984 is about socialism while his movie is about being numb and how the society in the movie don't want to feel anything anymore. Its actually a really good commentary track. If you have the DVD go listen to it now.

1984 is about uncontrolled fascism..not socialism. F-451 is not about Mccarthyism per se either..it is also about fascism. McCarthyism is a type of fascism.

Since we're talking literature...I think things can be a little more openminded.

Scholars argue that Big Brother either originated from the right or the left. I think people tend to think 'fascism', because Orwell himself preferred socialism.

That being said, I personally always thought Orwell left it ambigious on purpose, so the reader can draw his/her own conclusion.

And I've always thought The Crucible was the best Anti-McCarthyism piece out there.

I thought that the fascism in 1984 was from hyper conservative patriotic fascism brought on by the war.
