Shazamgrrrl's tattered arse aside, it's kind of a fence sitting non answer, isn't it?

I mean for the Hal fans, they can say he's exonerated and didn't do it blahblahblah.

For the people who liked ET and it's events, they can say "Well, actually, yes he still did do it and still bears that burden of guilt and responsibility."

But the yellow alien fear eating bug thing? I dunno. I always preferred the "Unified Green Theory" that I think it was Mark Evanier put forth in a CBG column a while back. Basically the notion was that anyone that was exposed to the green power for too long ended up going power mad at some point. It fit too, because there was such a nice little history of GLs going wonky. (The Manhunters, Sinestro, Malvolio, Yalan Gur, Hal, I know there's more, but I can't recall now.)

But I do think Kyle's being written very well in this . I'm hoping there's more to it than this.

I hit my local comic shop today and decided to cave in on the Rebirth mini and picked up the first 3 issues. Now I sit here reading this and wonder why in the hell I didn't read this before I picked up this stuff. OUCH... I'll still read it though. I'm trying to get into the DC stuff. I'm 5 years into my third stint collecting comics. I never followed DC much in the past. I do love the Flash though. That's a hot title. Superman/Batman is great as well. I guess after reading all the posts here my expectations a lower so who knows maybe I'll enjoy Rebirth. Thanks guys. Question: As a person trying to get into the DCU what would you recomend I pick up? I started to get the new DC Encyclopedia. Good move or bad move?

Get the Blasters comic from 1988, it should tell you everything you need about the DCU...

I'll say good move. If you can keep from getting bogged down in all the obscure characters, you do get a fairly decent overview of the main players, or the icons.

I recommend picking up New Frontier as well. The first trade is out, and while it's technically not an in continuity story, it's a great intro to the DCU. It gives you a good sense of the background of DC, and is a cohesive look at the birth of the Silver Age. A retro story told with somewhat modern sensibilities but without being a complete deconstruction.

I'm a big fan of Thriller. I wish they'd re-release the first few issues as a TPGB.

Well, that's kind of the point. There aren't supposed to be any.

Incidentally, did anyone see that Kurt Busiek crapfest JLA v. CSA? Fucking idiot is too busy trying to do a contuity stitch job than tell a good story.

The Parallax explanation is admittedly a big stretch. But considering what Johns had to work with, it's probably the best way Hal could be exonerated just short of ignoring the last 10 years.

Hopefully things will pick up with the new ongoing this spring....

Why did he have to be exonerated, though? Isn't that taking the easy way out? Shit, he's been redeeming himself since The Final Night (1996)... He saved the fucking galaxy, then God recruited him as his servant... why not cut the crap already, make him come to terms with his mistake once and for all, and have him come back as a superhero who fucked up big time once causing the death of thousands and threatening even more? That's one heck of a twist for a superhero if you ask me...

It wouldn't be easy to write a book like that, that's for sure. Not everyone would accept him and that should be reflected in the comic, but it'd be a lot more interesting than bringing back the fucking 80's as if nothing had happened.

Mxy, you're making sense, and that's scaring me.

And its a damn good point, about bringing back the 80s. I blame Alex Ross and Kurt Busiek. Both love the character, and they are basically just big fanboys with far too much influence.

We should have just had a well babanced Parallax who would sometimes fight the JLA and sometimes team up with them - Hal, never believing that he was wrong for one moment!

ROY BATTY for DC Editor in Chief.

Cool idea for Hal Jordan. I had thought of Parallax as being like Magneto but always pitted agaisnt the JLA. It makes more sense that sometimes he'd team up with them, if they'd let him.
