...The upcoming Superman/Batman action figure line. The first series, Public Enemies, will be based on the artwork of Ed McGuinness and will include:

Superman

McGuinness' portrayal of Superman translated fairly well into plastic. The stern facial expression, strong jawline and bodybuilder-esque physigue really play up the "Man of Steel" aspect/nickname.

Batman

Batman's cape is a bit short, yet he looks no less intimidating. Maybe it's the black and grey color scheme (not to mention the bland vanilla pose)...but I prefer this figure to the Hush Batman released last year.

Shazam!

Collectors all over the Internet are already touting this as the best rendition of The Big Red Cheese to date.

Captain Atom

A longtime request on collectors' wish lists, a DC Direct produced Captain Atom will finally see the light of day. However, his availability will be limited, as this will be the shortpacked figure of the series.

Metallo

Bar none, this has to be one of the worst choices DCD could have made for a Metallo figure. In fact, they could have chosen another villain. For instance, Battle Suit Luthor would have fit nicely into this line.

Superman/Batman series one: Public Enemies will be released on August 17.

That's a distinct possibility. DC Direct was adamanant in stating this was only the first series of Superman/Batman figures.

By the way, does anyone else think the new Batman figure looks kinda like Clark Bartram's Bats from Dead End and World's Finest?

It's a little lazy that they used the same body sculpt for Atom, Bats, Supes, AND Marvel. . . just tinkered with the costumes. At least they gave them all their own heads and jaw structures. Lazy bastiches. . .

The Batman figure doesn't look right. Otherwise they all kick ass. Though I would prefer a Battle Suit Luthor over Metallo. I'm crossing my fingers for a Composite Superman/Batman robot figure!

The Captain Marvel figure stinks, but then again, I don't like McGuiness' manhua-influenced art. I'd rather save my cash for a CM figure based on Jeff Smith's Monster Society of Evil.

"...so I can bitch about that, because I secretly hate all comics, especially those that came after 1950."

Is there ANY comic in modern times that you WON'T slag? I swear, every post you throw up here is some kind of negative pap about how you hate this comic or that comic-inspired toy. If you hate them all so much, STOP READING THEM! And stop sommenting on things that you either know nothing about or can't be bothered to at least try and enjoy. You are easily one of the most, if not THE most, negative people on these boards. We get it: No Captain Marvel comic by anyone not named Binder is ever going to be good enough for your "exacting", meaning "stunted", standards. Move along...find some frigging joy in your life. And stay away from comics; they obviously don't do the trick for you.

No, Joseph, the last Captain Marvel writer who's work I enjoyed was a little-known guy by the name of E. Nelson Bridwell, not Otto Binder. My standards aren't "stunted", as you say; I'm choosy about what I spend my money on and prefer getting a good story with good art that meshes with that story. That's what comics are supposed to be, you know.

How much do these things go for? And how big are they?

Never really got into the comic toy line, or any toys for that matter, are these basically just 'Heroclix', those mini little super-hero statues?
Im not particularly a fan of either Superman or Cap. Marvel but Ed's designs really work for 'em from my POV

I wanna see an Ed Mcguinness Martian Manhunter one

"Now TV's all about format these days isn't it, and I've got a new type for you right here. Its me and Paris Hilton driving around in a car.... Now I know what you're thinking, but she's in the boot!" "So you see, 'Ring around the Rosey' refers to the horrible symptoms of a terrifying disease, a disease which.....a disease which....ZIM! Theres a Pigeon on you're head. You have 'Head Pigeons'. get to the Nurse before they spread to the other children." "Get off my lawn Cookie Beast!" --Invader Zim

They'll most likely be selling in the average DCD price range of $12-$15 each...the price really depends on how much the comic book shop charges (unless you order online).

Metallo will be 6.5" tall, the rest will be 6.75". All will feature 10-14 points of articulation.

and an Ed McGuinness Martian Manhunter would kick ass. I'm also hoping for a McGuinness Nightwing.

I apologize for sounding abasive in my last two posts. Wasn't my intention to.

Joe, if you enjoy McGuinness' style of art, that's your right, and that's fine. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind here. I've just never been too crazy about it, myself. Not when he was with Image, and not now. McGuinness' style reminds me too much of "Street Fighter" and "Fist of the North Star".

When it comes to the Big Red Cheese, my tastes lean more towards ShazamGrl's than not. And I'm not a big fan of McGuiness's art.

But I gotta say: that's a pretty good looking Capt. Marvel figure.

I'm not commenting on your opinion of McGuinness or his art. I was pointing out - abrasively, I'll admit - that you don't seem to have a nice thing to say about any comics. Opinions are fine - I share your's about Winick and a few other subjects. But every post of your's I read in the Comics Forum shreds someone's writing or art, or just the title itself. I guess my question is "Do you like any titles put out these days?" After all, I don't choose to believe that someone would post in a Comics Forum if they hated current comics to the point where there's nothing out there that he/she enjoys. So what titles do you like?

There...that sounded a little less catty.
