I liked it..it was fun and great. I have never seen catwoman..but elektra was 100 times worse...daredevil was worse..which i gave a c-, I liked it as much as spidey 1 atleast....

Just saw it. Not bad... but not great either. I think one of the main issues was casting. While I thought Evans was a particularly inspired bit of casting (this kid was, literally, a perfect Johnny Storm) and Chiklis did a decent job as the Thing, I just wasn't convinced by Gruffud's Reed or Alba's Sue (though she was looking pretty hot in that low-cut form-fitting bodysuit). I don't think they had much real chemistry with one another, which might've been essential to making their relationship (at least their romantic one) believable. The only time I thought they did well together was when they were arguing with each other. I've never seen anything with Julian McMahon before, so I didn't know what to expect from him. All in all, he wasn't too bad... but his 'turn' was too sudden and not really all that convincing (at least not to me).
I thought the major problem was the script, though... especially its treatment of Doom. Too many liberties, I felt - from his being in the cosmic storm to his powers in general. I'm a bit of a purist, so that was a bit hard for me to swallow. There was also a certain plot device with Thing (don't wanna give too much away) that made sense cinematically but just left a bad taste in my mouth overall.
Was it the worst superhero movie I've ever seen? No. However, it stands for me as a beacon that the reign of superhero films at the box office is nearing an end. Marvel's 'House of Ideas' is running out... at least in terms of film. If DC can pull off its Superman project, there may be some hope... but if not, I think the superhero era will end the same way it did last time - with a Bat.

The comic-book adaptation "Fantastic Four" raked in $56 million during its first three days, apparently helping to end a swoon in which domestic movie revenues had been down 19 weekends in a row compared to last year's.
The top 12 films took in $141 million, up 2.25 percent from the same weekend in 2004, according to industry estimates Sunday. Numbers often drop slightly when studios release final figures Monday, but this past weekend still should come in ahead of last year's, said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations.
"It took four superheroes to end this slump, and Hollywood is grateful," Dergarabedian said. "Comic-book movies, if properly marketed, are exactly what mainstream audiences want to see in their summer movies."
The movie bumped the previous weekend's top film, "War of the Worlds," into second place with $31.3 million. "War of the Worlds" raised its 12-day domestic total to $165.8 million.
"Fantastic Four" far surpassed industry projections of an opening weekend of $40 million or less. 20th Century Fox, which released the film, had expected a debut "in the high 30s," said Bruce Snyder, the studio's head of distribution.
Based on the Marvel Comics series that debuted in the early 1960s, "Fantastic Four" stars Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans as astronauts who gain superpowers after exposure to a cosmic storm.
If Sunday's estimate holds, it would come in ahead of the opening weekend of fellow Marvel adaptation "X-Men," which debuted in 2000 with $54.5 million. Marvel's first "Spider-Man" movie had a record opening weekend of $114.8 million in 2002.
Unlike the well-reviewed "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" films, "Fantastic Four" overcame a drubbing by critics, with some calling it a lightweight tale with a sitcom tone.
While Hollywood appeared to have ended its downturn of 19-straight weekends, movie revenues remain in the doldrums. Revenues this year are running 7 percent behind last year's, and factoring in higher ticket prices, admissions are off 10 percent.
Revenues may continue to sag in the coming weeks compared to this time last year, when such hits as "I, Robot," "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Village" had huge opening weekends in July and early August.
Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is expected to do big business this weekend. Other movies coming this month and next include the remake "The Bad News Bears," the action films "The Island" and "Stealth," the comedy "Wedding Crashers" and "The Dukes of Hazzard."
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at North American theaters, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. Final figures will be released Monday.

I liked it. Didnt love it. Liked it. The banter betwen the characters is really what I enjoyed. CG or no CG. Johnny and Ben were near perfect. Alba was eye candy but definitely miscast. Fantastic dude was aight. Im glad Doom was hardcore. I loved the fact that he murdered so much.
All that being said, it was by no stretch a Batman Begins nor Spider-Man. It was a better than average movie and a pretty good comic book film.
Where I give Batman Begins a 4/4 star rating.
F4 gets a 2.5-3 stars out of 4.

Saw it with the kids yesterday.
I liked it. As said above, didn't love it. Liked it. Thought it had a number of solid moments and is far superior to DAREDEVIL.
A solid B.
Strengths: the SPFX were solid. I thought they captured the FF onscreen terrifically. The scene with Reed stretching around Ben to subdue him was excellent.
Ben and Johnny were Ben and Johnny. Johnny in particular.
I loved characterizing Reed as "the world's dumbest smart man." Because that's Reed in a nutshell.
It was a focused story (avoiding all the things that weakened DD).
I really felt it was believable that, in this day and age, a crowd of people witnessing super-heroics WOULD applaud the heroes, not cower in fear.
Weaknesses
Jessica Alba. She's pretty, but she's not as good an actor as any of her co-stars.
Some of the dialogue had moments of hokiness. I can't recall specifics, will have to see it again.
Doom's revenge on the Board of Directors...man, that's right outta SPIDER-MAN and was a major groaner.
Doom in general: Dr. Doom is Marvel's greatest human villain, Marvel's Darth Vader. Although I understood that the cinematic FF tried to borrow elements from the Ultimate FF, I felt that it was a mistake to approach Doom in that manner. It didn't destroy the movie for me, but it just put Doom across as just another bad guy. And that's not Doom.
A show of hands for everyone who now finds that it's a distraction when Stan Lee shows up. 'Nuff said, guys. No more Stan cameos. Ya ever heard of the Fourth Wall? And geez, now you give him dialog.
Liked the ending, pretty much. I understood Ben's refusal to have Reed cure him, though I wish that this part had been made more obvious. I saw Ben's refusal as based on two things: 1. Alicia does not find him a monster, thus Ben can find love as the Thing; 2. Ben feels that by keeping his powers, he can always be there to protect Reed. I really got a sense of Ben's need to protect Reed in this movie. I don't know if this really was ever a part of the comic (I can't recall it), but I think it's a great angle for the movie and any sequels.
Loved the nod to RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK on the ship bound for Latvaria at the end.
I was expecting a lot worse based on the reviews I'd heard about. I was overall pleased.

FF wasn't nearly as good as Spider-Man . . . but it was better than Spider-Man 2 and Elektra. Daredevil made a teensy bit more effort in some parts (but not by much) and I actually liked The Punisher but never saw The Hulk.

Yeah, it was much better when his cameos were of the "silent" type . . . like in X-Men.
As for my thoughts on the movie . . . it wasn't that bad but it wasn't that good either. It was "okay." Johnny and Ben definately stole the show. Doom, Sue and Reed were just kinda "ehh" and where was the reasoning for Doom to suddely decide to kill off all four of them?

See, there was just something about Spidey 2 that threw me off and it just didn't have that extra bit in it that the first one did.
Yeah, it was still cool, but no where near as "wow" as the first one. I can't put my finger on it, but it's there somewhere.

I saw it as result of his vanity. He believes Reed's error led to his ruination. I would have preferred that Doom avoid the "Norman Osborne" moment of killing the Board of Directors, but I understood his decision to kill the FF, making Reed the last one to die having seen all the others die first.

FF may end up being like the second Spidey film.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was pretty good. Its no Batman Begins, but I still enjoyed it. Pretty much agree with what Chewy and Jim had to say about it regarding pros/cons. Johnny Storm was the only character that was spot on and made for some nice eye candy to boot. Cannot strees enough how miscast both Sue and Reed were. Yes, Alba is pretty, but she doesn't have the presence necessary to be Sue. And who was the guy who played Reed? Calling him mediocre is a compliment. They really were not good.
Special effects were good - especially with the human torch - and the Ben Johnny relationship was great. And Jim, I wholeheartedly agree with you about Stan Lee's cameos. Several people groaned when he started yapping away, myself included. Ugh.
I thought it was better than the reviews gave it credit for. B/B-

I enjoyed it. I'd pay to see a sequel.
Doom aside, I thought the Four were adapted very faithfully to their comic counterparts. Alba sucks and I'm starting to despise her. Chiklis was really good on the big screen, he should do more films. Johnny Storm was PERFECT. I also thought that the Sci-Fi portions were sprinkled in solidly. To me, that was what made FF stand out from say the Avengers, the Sci-Fi aspect. They were Spider-Man and Buck Rogers combined.
So, it was nice and it was enjoyable. Everyone who said this movie was shit should really take a moment and re-evaluate what you watch movies for. Yes, even comic book movies.
