I feel the same way about that film.

Why couldnt they have just hired Nolan, Bale, etc., to jump start the franchise with a new film, ala the way they did with Brosnan and Bond.

It makes sense to me. They want to completely redefine Batman on film from the mythology on up.

maybe. But it was my understanding that they deliberately set out to get a scrpt that retold the Year One/origin

Yeah, but then they went out and replanted the vine to get this script, which is also a Year One story

I'm not saying this coulnd't be good, just observing that they really seemed to want to do a Year One story.

Hey I can't complain. Miller's Year One was a good story.

Think about it, G-Man: if you had to follow the Schumacher Batman films, would you want to continue the franchise from that point or start all over?

Personally, I'd like to see more comic book movies done like James Bond films in one area.

James Bond films, for all their flaws, don't feel the need to re-establish the hero's origin or what he's been up to between films every time they make one.

Instead, the producers realize that the audience knows that James Bond is a secret agent with cool gimmicks and gets right into the action. They also realize that the audience can accept that the series is decades old and don't feel the need to explain why the hero doesn't age (or why he is a different actor every seven or so years).

Why can't a Superman movie proceed from the same basic assumption, that everyone knows Superman is an alien from Kypton who disguises himself as Clark Kent, etc, instead of wasting half or more of a movie recapping an origin everyone in America already knows.

Honestly.................that is pure genius.............simple and perfect........now if hollywood would only listen.

Not really. It recycles a lot of stuff from the Burton-Schumacher period...stuff that people criticized harshly the first time around. It also replicates the same mistakes Burton and Schumacher made, in addition to making at least two major blunders of its own. Why WB can't adopt the animated series' approach to the movies is beyond me.

As for Brando...forget it. WB told VH1.com it's all Internet BS. It's VERY unlikely that the lost footage from Superman II will show up in the new movie. As for this kid rumor, Richard White is the father of the boy, yes. Blue Tights.net confirmed this. However, since Superman's only been absent for 4-5 years in a Kingdom Come-style exile (source: Bryan Singer interviewed at Superman Homepage), the odds of it being Lois Lane's kid are pretty remote.

My first novel, Wounds of the Heart (http://www.booksurge.com/product.php3?bookID=IMPR02655-00001), has been published. Check it out, if you like.

I remember reading that before, but couldn't remember how long Singer said he was gone.
And how the hell are they going to explain Clark Kent being gone for years?

Simple fact is they have never established his origin, let alone re-established them.
All we know was he was in the navy, nothing else!

Ditto for the Batman tv series in the 60s.

I think Batman is one of those characters who everyone knows & either knows his origin or doesnt care about it!
They could easily make a film or film franchise without once putting his origin into the story!
