he seems like a bit of a tool. unlike any artist I've ever heard of, he refuses to draw certain characters and insists on drawing the JLA in their silver age state.
Also, if every other cover out there has an Alex Ross picture, it stops being special.

In short, Yes, i agree
I hate it when writers/artists let their personal feelings interupt with their work. When they refuse to do certain characters it pisses me off, especially when the companies still give them work and cator to their needs

I can honestly say that i never saw what was special about Alex ross in the 1st place. I can see that he is extremely telented, but i dont like real life photo-like art in comics. Comics, for me, are kind of like a small escape from reality, i dont get that when im looking at real-life people

Interestingly, I just re-read KINGDOM COME over the past weekend.

Very good story. Good artwork.

But I couldn't get into a regular series produced in such a fashion.

Yes, he's a tool.

But I'd be all over an ALL*STAR Ross 70's Legion.

i can appreciate the skill that goes into Ross's work but it's starting to get boring seeing the same few characters in the same few poses. that and his fanboyish devotion to his version of characters comes off as a little unprofessional to me.

still, when Ross first hit the scene i couldn't get enough of his stuff and this might just be a case of familiarity breeding contempt. that and Universe X and Paradise X weren't that good . . .

Totally agree. Ross is quickly becoming a glorified hack...

yeah, Ross painting over Jim Lee does nothing for me, i can understand why the idea of teaming them up would makes sense from a marketing standpoint but artistically i find it weakens both thier work. Lee's stuff loses its energy and kinetic quality and Ross's attention to detail looks very odd over Lee's more stylized figures.

Drawing the same characters in the some poses might make him a boring artist...but "hack" seems a bit strong. Besides, he has done other things, as few and far between as they may be. I'll still take those few strong works over the piles of crap other "fast" artists churn out. Quantity over quality.

I guess I don't mind him as much because most of his favorites are mine, too.

hack is a bit strong but it's getting noticable and kind of boring.

still i'm as excited as anyone about his upcoming JLA mini-series.

I use the term "hack" in that, he is constantly doing the same thing over, and over. His re-use of the same models, and need for every JLA story he draws to be about the *yawn* over-glorified Silver Age really stifles my enjoyment of his art, or his work in the industry on a whole. So he draws the cover to [INSERT COMIC HERE]. So what? The day he does a monthly comic, with the modern characters (i.e. Wally, Kyle, etc.) is the day I start to regain respect for his abilties. Otherwise, he's like Mark Waid....has one hook and keeps using it...

Have to agree. I remember seeing his pencils in a "Sandman Mystery Theatre" annual and they were fantastic!

Oh, I'd be all over this in a heartbeat! I'm surprised he hasn't done a pitch yet for something like this. At least that we're aware of...

Ross is only as good as his material in a lot of ways.

He does a great Superman. On the other hand, his Batman looks like a beefy guy in a bad costume.

Also, I'm "internet buddies" with one of his former models (on another board). She says hes a mysoginistic prick

I believe he absolutely refuses to draw Kyle in his GL costume

He's drawn Kyle once, if I remember correctly. For a poster I used to have:

That's the only time he's drawn Kyle. After that, he refused to draw him again. He's never outright refused to draw Wally that I know of. Just Kyle.

Another, small, thing about Ross that bugs me is his insistence on retroactively depicting Capt. Marvel as a member of the satellite-era JLA.

Which board is this? And who is the unlucky woman? One of the Kingdom Come models?

Just curious. I haven't been a fixture on the comic book MB scene of late.

He paints everyone fat.

Batman looks like a fatboy in his mask.

And yes, he is overexposed.

I dig the Ross over Lee cover. I feel that a vehement contrary opinion is based more so on a willingness to hate than to critically critique its artistic merit.
