He was originally cast when Michael J. Fox was unavailable.
But Zemekis felt it wasn't working out and they worked out a schedule to shoot around Family Ties.

It would've sucked with Stoltz.

By the way, Chekov wasn't assigned on the Enterprise when Khan overtook it. So how the FUCK did he remember him?

Ricardo Maltobam had the theory that Chekov was assigned, just not to the bridge. He said that Khan ran into Chekov in the bathroom and Chekov used the last of the toilet paper. Khan looked at him and said "I never forget a face, Mr. Chekov."

The Ceti Eel was in fact a result of Khan's bout with disentary on the Enterprise at that time, wasn't it?

Turnabout's fair play...

Hear hear...Stoltz as Marty would have been the casting disaster of the decade,if not the century.

The theory among most Trekker fandom is that Checkov *was* assigned to the Enterprise during those "first season" adventures, but that he was not assigned at a post on the Bridge until the second season.

Presumably, Khan and Chekov must've run into each other in the bathroom.

Chekov: "Hello, how are you? I am Ensign Pavel Chekov."

Khan: "I am Khan Noonian Singh and on Earth I was a Prince."

Chekov: "Oh, vell, dat's nice. Haff a nice stay on the Enterprise."

Then that explains Khan's hatred of Chekov. Every man knows you NEVER take a urinal next to another man if there are others available and you DEFINITELY NEVER talk to a man while he's doing his business! That's just basic courtesy!

Or Chekov was assigned to the bridge, just not on a shift that we saw.

It looks more like Charlie Sheen to me, even though I know it's Stoltz.

Man, Zemekis, etc., dodged a bullet here, didn't they? Stoltz would not have worked at all in this film.

Eric Stoltz to appear in the "Will & Grace" live versions

They're really hitting the bottom of the "Special Guest Star Barrell" with this show.
