With the upcoming rebirth of ECW, it got me thinking about who might be transferred to the roster who hasnt actually been in ECW before!
Now obviously WWE has signed a bunch of ex-ECW guys, and we will get some current WWE guys with ECW backgrounds, but they will more than likely bolster the roster with guys who have no history with the promotion!
Some will likely be OVW/DSW up & comers, but who on the WWE roster would fit?

Think about their style and if they might benefit by putting them in ECW (dont forget how it changed Al Snows career after numorous bad gimmicks)

The guys listed are, in my opinion, the most eligible names to be farmed out, so who would you accept?

I voted for some, but I think Paul Heyman has shown in the past as long as someone has a certain level of competency he can make them shine by booking to their strengths. Justin Credible is a perfect example, he is a more than average worker, but nothing spectacular yet in ECW Paul was able to play to his strengths and make him seem like a legit upper card wrestler. Same with Taz. It will be interesting to see if Paul still has the gift and if he does which guys we think are crap that he turns into a star.

The further interesting thing will be if the WWE then calls them up and buries them....

This was basically what I was thinking!
On that list I put both talented & crappy guys, with the idea that Paul might be able to do something with the guys that arent used properly, or maybe make the crappy ones look less crappy!
Some of the guys on the list like Kennedy & Carlito are both being given semi-decent pushes with WWE, but it'd be interesting to see them as possible main eventers in ECW as I think they would fit the brand really well!

Val is in a similar position Shane Douglas was back in the day, WCW had given him a semi decent push then he was marked mid card jobber. His mic and wrestling skill are far above Douglas, 'd like to see Heyman ge him and put him to use.

see, I don't see Kennedy or Carlito as ECW type guys at all. their style from what I've seen is more promo/character based, and less in ring based. they're more WWE type wrestlers in my view.

It was easy to pick stuff out. I agree with basam's comment, if they don't screw with Heyman's booking, anybody on the list with a modicum of talent will shine. I just picked the following due to personal preference.

Matt Hardy
Paul London
Edge
Brian Kendrick
Kane (give him back his mask)
Gregory Helms
Eugene (as Nick Dinsmore. Fuck his retarded Retarded gimmick.)
Charlie Haas
Shelton Benjamin
Val Venis
William Regal
Lance Cade (I picked all of HBK's former pupils. I assume they'd work good matches against each other. Or maybe not.)

Kennedy is a good wrestler, and Carlito has been showing recently that he can wrestle.
Whether they would be able to hang with the hardcore style guys is debatable, but I am sure they would work some pretty good matches with guys like RVD!
Plus they would make strong heels, which is something the current ECW confirmed roster has very little of!

I don't see Carlito being too far behind Candido workrate wise at this point in his career, and he was utilized very well in ECW. ECW is remembered for it's hardcore in WWE programs but really it was about making the suspension of belief easier to take wehter it was promo, action or angle.

I'm not saying they can't make the transition, I'm just saying from what little I've seen of them, they don't fit the ECW type. Their biggest strengths seems to be promos/character stuff ala the Rock or other WWE type wrestlers.

I think Edge and JBL would actually fit better and work better as big time heels.

It's really hard to judge if a guy is the ECW type thoough. Think back to Stunning Steve Austin, or Shane Douglas, they certainly didn't seem like the ECW type. It was obvious Steve had great mat skills but he didnt seem to have the personality. Shane Douglas was a great "Rocker" type middle card promo guy, with solid ring skill ala Carlito but I never watched him work a match and thought the guy could headline much less launch a company the way he launched ECW.

so, ok, ecw is being remade and given its own little universe and revisiting some of their own big names and all, but...

wasn't part of the main ... i don't know ... "drive" of the original ecw an effort to beat "traditional" wrestling, like wwf? the competitive little drive that kicked in to all the guys and all the stories, etc.

y'think that'll still be there, with ecw simply being a "new smackdown" level branch of wwe?

Mahon is trying to create the illusion that ECW is in direct competition with the WWE (just like the inane "rivalry" between Smackdown and RAW), but no, it won't be the same as the old days, and that will hurt the product...

well with Douglas, there was nothing to judge against because there was no ECW. they both made their transitions together. as far as based on his past history, yeah, no one would've thought he could become the "Franchise" character and do what he did. that's part of what was so great about it. it was new and fresh.

as far as Austin goes, I saw him before he was in WCW, and I always thought he had all the tools to go to the top. the feud with Chris Adams and his wife foreshadowed a lot of the personality traits that would characterize Austin's "Stone Cold" later on. The Hollywood Blonds team with Pillman also gave him a lot of room to shine, both in the ring and in character stuff. Nothing to the extent of his peak years, obviously, but the signs were there from the start.

but the thing with Raven is he's always been good at what he did. he was always a good heel. Johnny Polo was probably more hated than the guys he managed.

was the Raven character a complete 180? Yes, but his skills were always apparent. I doubt you'd see Carlito or Kennedy (or just about anyone for that matter) make such a drastic persona change these days.

I think Austin has often aknowledged that he learnt a lot from Pillman when it came to promos!

I was reffering to him being a ECW style wrestler. I often thought he was underbooked in WCW and that it was a mistake to let him go. If anything the Hollywood Blondes gimmick was more of an "Attitude" era gimmick before the era was there.

I actually found the Double Inoue tag match. good stuff.

for the last couple of hours I've been watching lots of japanese wrestling. I'll likely be watching a lot more this week.
