and the very final Starrcade was even worse.

TRIPLE LADDER MATCH: Shane Helms & Shannon Moore beat Kaz Hayashi & Yang and Jamie Noble & Evan Karagias..
this might've been ok, simply for the added ladder stipulation. But I haven't seen it, so fuck it.

MATCH: Lance Storm defeated Ernest "The Cat" Miller..
basically Storm carrying Miller.

HARDCORE TITLE MATCH: Terry Funk defeated Crowbar to win the title!
I love Funk, but he was just too damn old for this shite.

TAG TEAM MATCH: KroniK (Brian Adams & Bryan Clarke) defeated Big Vito & Reno..
KroniK was a great angle. Shame they couldn't get over in the E later. especially since they had such long history with them and both worked the style well.

AMBULANCE MATCH: Mike Awesome defeated Bam Bam Bigelow..
actually would like to see this.

US TITLE MATCH: General Rection defeated Shane Douglas by DQ to retain..
was hoping Douglas would win. this was near the end of his WCW run.

6-MAN TAG: The Harris Brothers & Jeff Jarrett defeated Konnan & Billy Kidman & Rey Mysterio Jr...
don't remember this one.

TAG TITLE MATCH: The Insiders (Kevin Nash & DDP) defeated Chuck Palumbo & Shawn Stasiak to win the titles!
memorable only for the Insiders constant attempts at getting Scott Hall back in WCW. although Page and Nash worked well together. they should've since they first teamed up back in the early 90's as the Vegas Connection.

MATCH: Bill Goldberg defeated Lex Luger..
Meh.

WORLD TITLE MATCH: Scott Steiner defeated Sid Vicious to retain..
More meh. this almost rivals Hogan/Beefcake for worst Starrcade main event. *almost*

so there you have it. Starrcade goes out whimpering like a sad little dog with most of it's legs cut off.

it's a shame to see things that were once so promising finish out so poorly. especially when it's history is so rich.

so essentially, what did I hope to get out of this?

I'm not really sure. share some memories. have a few laughs. recoil in horror at some of the inane booking. we've done all that, yeah.

one thought would be that the Starrcade name deserves to be revived so it can live on and continue it's history. but whoever had that thought would do well to notice how horrible the E's booking is right now and how it just seems to be getting worse. Starrcade would vanish under a sea of undistinguishable crap ppvs.

what I would ultimately like to see is a "Best of Starrcade" dvd set and here are my recommendations for the matches that should be on it.

Back when I first started watching Wrestling, (around 1960 - 62?) Bruno Sammartino, Chief Jay Strongbow, and Baron Michel Ceycluna (spell?) were all still wrestling.

Lou Albano wasn't a Captain yet, and he was still a wrestler, too.

Wrestling was on Saturdays, after the cartoons were over for the day.

The matches back then were very simple compared to today's WWE!

(A rare World title shot for Nikita, and a rare case of Flair being a face, almost by default. )

Actually, this was just after Nikita's face turn, and he was very much the good guy here. I've only seen this match once, on a not-terribly-good VHS copy that a friend had, but I don't remember Flair being especially cheered.

ah, thanks. I must have confused this with the match where the Russians attacked Flair and Dusty came out to save him.

I thought Nikita's face run came later.

The Russians/Flair match you're thinking of was pre starrcade '85.

As for Nikita's face turn, it had really only just happened at this point, due to Magnum TA's forced retirement. Basically they rushed Nikita into the main event here to cover, and as a result I think he was still getting boos for a little while afterwards since some fans hadn't fully caught up with the storylines (most of my knowledge fro mthsi coems from retrospective reasearch done via old magazines and the aforementioned buddy with wrestling vids).

I believe that's inferred in my post. . .
