Just watched it. Not terrible, but not great either. I have to agree that the humor was way too goofy. Agent V. Elrond, Queen of the Desert didn't do a bad job, but he seemed to be copying Welker's Megatron through most of those lines. Why the hell not just get Welker, save some money, and give the fans even more of what they want? The CGI was great and everything looked good, but there were too damn many slow-motion shots. Michael Bay, learn how to direct, you douchebag. Megatron was terribly underused. He was basically just there to spout off old lines from the original movie. The concept of the All-Spark wasn't bad. I just think that the script was full of plot holes and lame jokes. Despite what the writers said, this wasn't about being true to the Transformers mythos. It was about a big budget action flick with a lot of explosions and special effects. All in all, it just didn't have what I remembered liking about the Transformers and what made me watch it.

And maybe I don't know a five star blockbuster smash hit when I see one.

The movie is called "Transformers" and yet the stars hardly had any lines. So many questions were unanswered, including who each of them are, how they got the ability to transform, etc. Who needs that when you can watch a selfish kid bug his dad for a car and use it to ditch his friend at a place neither were invited to pick up a girl that turns out to be an ex con's daughter, and then is burdened with the fate of the world?

But don't take my word for it. I am not a movie critic. I am a real horse.

That's really right on the money. The Transformers were secondary characters. What very little character work they did with Bumblebee and Ironhide had the characters wrong. And Starscream only had one fucking line. I mean, come on! And all Megatron really did was regurgitate dialogue from the animated movie. And why was Sam still selling his great-grandfather's shit to make money that he already had? I mean, outside of the fact that it was a plot device to center the action on him.

I dunno...I thought the big guys shone every moment they were in. Which would be better than a whole movie about them that copied the entire old movie...

But hey, I'm not a purist. Y'all know I hated the whole VW bug thing...and I think that by making Bumbleebee mute and making him dependent on the radio, it sort of cemented him as a likable underdog that didn't need to be rescued. And you know...when I first heard Ironhide's voice I was like 'no twang?' But he had huge effin' guns on his huge effin' guns. I enjoyed him.

Too many humans...maybe...but that's why God (or Spielberg) made sequels.

I don't think anyone on that team planned for just one movie. You know they're wanting at least two more, and now that the concept of robots in disguise has been made clear the general audience (remember, my parents came into the movie totally ignorant and ended up liking it), do you really think there's going to be much of a focus on the humans in a later movie?

They are alien robots and that is what they do.
Maybe all films featuring humans should explain how we got the ability to walk, talk and take a shit!

Actually, I'm totally digging Prowl as a ninja motercycle.

(Which reminds me...I need to get that Prowl figure to sit next to my Perceptor at work...)

It was funny hearing everyone cheer when Grimlock showed up and Starscream began talking.

If your gonna make a transformers cartoon, at least make them look like the old ones. I don't care for this style. If I see one more animated person with eyes that take up 75% of their face I'm gonna vomit.

#31 on the highest grossing movie list.

That means more money for the sequel, which means more actual Transformers.

The Robot Chicken guys said they'd feature Soundwave in season three, since he didn't get a movie deal.

Is that the original Megatron figure? 'Cause he's sort of scary in a distorted way.

Total runtime clocks in at 143 minutes. Extras for the Special Edition standard-definition release will include:

* I Fight Giant Robots: An exploration of the military training that Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson underwent for their roles and the various stunts that the actors were asked to perform.

* Autobots Roll Out: Michael Bay discusses working with Chevy and its designers and the modifications that were made to the cars seen in the film.

* Inside the AllSpark: ILM's digital artists discuss the challenges of bringing the Transformers to life.

"More Than Meets The Eye"

* From Script to Sand: The SKORPONOK Desert Attack - An in-depth look at the making of this particularly epic and challenging scene from initial storyboarding through production and visual effects.
* Early sketch concepts of the robots.
* Trailers

The Transformers HD DVD will be presented in 1080p High Definition with English, French and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus and English, English SDH+, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. In addition to the above features that will be presented in high definition, the HD DVD will also offer the following exclusive content:

October? This pleases me. I still don't 'get' HDDVDs and Blue-Rays, but I guess my 360 is built for that kind of thing.

Don't get the HD-DVD player for the 360. Every review I've read of it says its horrible and not worth the money. Its better to buy a regular HD-DVD player, or wait until there's one standard.

Besides, you know there gonna release an even better version when the sequel comes out. I say just get the regular DVD version for now.

i just seed it.

i liked it for the super mark-out moments, like optimus transforming for the first time, and him gearing up to fight megatron, prime saying "one shall stand, and one shall fall", megatron yelling at starscream and even when bumblebee came to life and smacked the VW bug.

thought the robots lookes much aweshome, the transforming was neato, and the battle scenes were sweet.

i didn't hate the human segments of the film anywhere near as much as i thought i would, however i hated them as a whole in that they took up far too much of the film. instead of robots punching each other in their robot balls, it was people going to parties and a love story and being stopped on a highway by some secret military force lead by mr. deed's' foot fettish butler.

i also was not a fan of the 35 foot robots being able to sneak around town with ease like 50-ton ninjas. that is not how i interpretted the "in disguise" portion of the theme song.

the most effective transformer in the entire film was the lil skeletal looking guy, that hacked all the systems. spider shapes, hiding as a stereo, offensive attacks, sneaking all around... he was it.

but i have no idea who he was. or if he was even a transformer from my youth's cartoon.

in fact, i didn't know who most of them were. the autobots were at least differentiated from one another by some bolder colors, but that wasn't always useful. in robot modes, everyone was very difficult to tell apart. and none of them had any more than 1 line and 2 minutes of camera time to give me a chance to figure out if i could.

jazz was ripped in half ...them? sad.

even prime, outside of his cool battle axe headshot kill, was punked a little too easily by megatron, who was only defeated because of everyone else attacking him, and sam's special christmas gift. apparently, he was the only one to figure out how else to dispose of the box. thanks for missing that one, super advanced robots from the future.

all in all, my complaints are more so about wanting to have seen more of the transformers -- no major gripes with storyline or pacing or anything of that sort. i would have easily have been much happier with a movie that was 30 minutes longer, were those 30 minutes dedicated to the autobots and decepticons, and everything else left as is.

hopefully this really was a first episode, of sorts, with much more roboting to take place in the not-too-distant future.

I buy DVDs for the extras. I'll probably give this one to my nephews and buy the better edition.

I also agree with Frank Welker and megatron. I still don't get why he voiced him in the video game and not the movie.

I got the DVD with extras. It kicked ass. There's a few segments on the new planes used in the film (not just the F-22, but the non-Transformer stuff as well), and there's this amusing part about Bonecrusher's Buffalo form.

Basically, the creative team thought they were getting something with a badass scoop/claw. Something like this:

Instead, they got this:

Which was not as big as they imagined. So they modified that entire section. Pretty funny.
