Spread The Word - Boycott TNA IMPACT 8/16
Press Release

August 14, 2007

Grass roots “IGNORE TNA IMPACT INITIATIVE” rapidly gaining steam and generating discussion and debate among frustrated wrestling fans

As you may or may not already be aware, there is a rapidly growing grass roots movement afoot among the internet wrestling fan community to boycott this Thursday's Impact program, airing on 8/16.

Dubbed the "Ignore Impact Initiative", the approach and desired outcome is a positive one. The pro-active “voice of the people” is designed to send a clear, strong message to TNA management regarding widespread dissatisfaction over the recent booking trends and sharp swing back towards intelligence insulting, cheesy gimmickry and outright illogical marketing tactics. This, following an earlier summer series of shows where compelling wrestling based episodes were aired and tested - and without question proven beyond a shadow of doubt to garner consistently higher ratings for the promotion while offering itself as a true alternative for eager viewers.

This viral word-of-mouth boycott has quickly generated an amazingly strong reaction among thousands of frustrated wrestling fans and is spreading as we speak to thousands more. Starting within the talkimpact.com community on the evening of 8/13, the movement has within literally less than a 24 hour period spiked significant net traffic and publicity for the cause. This morning found multiple sports and wrestling hotlines, fan blogs and forums around the world discussing the crusade for change within TNA Wrestling. There is great interest in spotlighting the story from multiple wrestling radio shows, such as Between The Ropes for one prime example, and Brian Alverez of Figure 4 Weekly devoted a full seven minutes to the Ignore Impact Initiative to open his latest audio update today.

We have received word that several people involved with the Nashville based promotion are on board “off the record” and strongly supportive of this initiative for positive change within TNA creative.

What's their gripe with Angle?

I think they're pissed because he's got all the titles. I actually don't have a problem with that as long as it doesn't go on too long. I'm willing to see what they do with it.

they're not a perfect company, but I do enjoy some of what they do. though I'm pissed that they keep jobbing out Christopher Daniels every damn week.

Yeah. For a guy who's currently billed as the #1 contender to the X-Division title, that's not a smart way to book him.

TNA Wrestling (official website)

1 -- CHRISTOPHER DANIELS (w/Elix Skipper and Senshi) vs. JAY LETHAL (w/The Guru) -- #1 Contender match to X Division Title

WINNER: Lethal in 6:00 to become #1 Contender to the X Division Title. Better than anything on last week's show, but not enough time to tell a complete story, especially when they cut suddenly from the end of the match to another segment. (*3/4)

2 -- CHRISTIAN CAGE vs. ABYSS

WINNER: Abyss in 7:00 to retain #1 Contender status. Rushed TV match to hurt the credibility of the gimmick for a future PPV match. At least it wasn't a bleeding hangnail, but Christian wasn't gushing like Cornette built it up in the earlier segment. (*)

Yep, you see it. Two matches...13 minutes of wrestling, both rated sub-par. Guess I didn't miss much at all tonight \:\(

They cant exactly make up that there was only 2 matches, both of which lasted less than 10 minutes.
The big issue is that this is exactly what they were critising WWE for only a few months ago!

So that's no longer current. I posted that before I knew of the results. He was the #1 contender as he had won the Ultimate X Gauntlet match.

last night's match was for the #1 contendership. now, granted, I didn't like the way Lethal's reign was cut short, but Daniels has really been getting the shit end of the stick for the last several months.

Maybe I am mixing him up with someone else (Low-Ki/Senshi maybe).
Theres so many negative reports coming outta TNA these days, with constant stories of the locker room being unhappy, its getting hard keeping things straight with whos happy and whos not!

Yeah. He was trying to break free right before they reformed Triple X.

yeah, Low Ki was trying to get out of his contract. they were apparently going to add him into LAX at one time, but that didn't come about. then after his pretty unimpressive X title run, he just seemed to be forgotten about.

I know he was incredibly pissed off when they tried to get control of the Low-Ki name, which was why he changed it to Senshi!

Daniels was one of the key people I enjoyed when I was watching TNA, but I really started to lose interest in what TNA was doing with him right about the time they had him have the head injury/concussion!

well, as we saw, even though the show itself wasn't all that, the ratings did go up, so the show was hardly "ignored", although the idea sparked a lot of discussion. so now they are trying a new tactic.

Copying this from the talk impact.com boards

Written by RogueHorseman

With our initial "Ignore Impact" drive to boycott the 8/16 episode of TNA Impact complete, it's time to focus our energies on expressing - in a professional, positive and respectful fashion - exactly what we each as individuals would most like to see the program become as it expands (and with our help and support) grows to hopefully become a true, viable alternative for eager wrestling fans nationwide and around the world.

The initiative was designed to be about all-inclusion from the start and intended to draw attention, debate and discussion among not only frustrated fans of TNA Wrestling - but the management of the company, even more so.

Mission accomplished.

Moving forward, I propose that each and every concerned fan put pen to paper and openly express their feelings about the product. In a tight and concise manner, tell the President of the company herself precisely what you do and don't like currently about TNA Impact and the promotion as a whole.

She is listening, I assure you, and this outreach by her long loyal but now frustrated consumers WILL be taken to heart at this critical time in the company's history.

Personal preferences vary, of course, and this type of individual expression is in keeping with the initiatives original goals and serves TNA management with valuable marketplace feedback and research.

I know that I'll be pointing out the summer format testing where the "wrestling based stories" episodes drove ratings back up to the 1.2's... yeah, and that infamous, huge WCW research study that whats-his-name tossed in the trash and that Jerry Jarrett knows the findings of in-depth. I'll be touching on MMA and missing the boat, announcing, and color schemes as well...

You may want to focus on the silly props and illogical, incoherent storylines currently seen... maybe you think the Impact zone needs a makeover or that they need to only play there infrequently, or maybe you just want to praise LAX or Joe... or Chris Harris, and ask that he not be buried by a knock-off who earned dead silence upon his debut...

Speaking of praise, I do suggest opening with something positive, no matter how brief before getting down to your complaints and concerns. Not to preach, but Dixie is quite busy as we all are, so keep it tight and concise and stay on point - to make your point heard loud and clear by the big brass.

We've gotten a lot of attention thus far, so let's follow up and make the most of it in the most positive and pro-active way possible.

To the guys and gals who have been in the trenches and on board so strongly, I thank you so very much for your help and support of the cause. It has far exceeded expectations, to put it mildly. By the same token, to those who have been critical I thank you as well and ask that you also take the time to send a letter to express what you do and don't like about the promotion currently.

Address your comments to:

Dixie Carter, President

Looks like these fans are trying to change the basic stupidity and immaturity that has sadly always been a staple of professional wrestling...

Good luck with that, fellas...

Also, its the whole reverse psychology thing.
Tell people to not watch something cause its bad, and they will go out of their way to see how bad it is, increasing ratings!
