It will be interesting to see what the creators have to say about the series when they end their blackout on talking about it.

BTW, could the island have been Eden?

I don't know.

I've never read the Bible.

Were there many people shot in the face in Eden?

That certainly ties in with the "Jacob's mom was Lilith" theory.

metacritic lost finale score: 7.4

pretty wide range of reactions. 6 perfect scores, like from IGN and USA today, who said stuff like "Sunday’s emotional feast of a finale … can stand with the best any series has produced. … thrillingly, cleverly, and in a manner that tapped into the simple, profound truths of great American works like Our Town, the show spelled out for viewers what it has been saying all along. Lost is about life and death, faith and science, spirit and flesh, and has always stressed that the title refers to the characters’ souls, not their location."

and two 1's, like from gawker, who said stuff like "We learned nothing from two-and-a-half hours of slow-motion bullshittery backed with a syrupy soundtrack. … How great is it to get all these characters back? Not very great at all, as it turns out. "

According to Entertainment Weekly (and to the surprise of almost no one) the producers of Lost are trying to hype the DVD set by promising a special 12 minute sequel:
  • ...a tantalizing look at what Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and Ben (Michael Emerson, left) do as the new Island overseers. ''Ben is going around to Dharma installations and closing some down,'' Emerson says. ''There are some good surprises.'' And yes, ''it does answer questions.'

No thanks. I like my series endings to actually occur during the series itself.

Let me know when it's posted to YouTube.

LOST’s Lindelof Picks
The Five Meanest Post-Finale Hate-Tweets

"You suck. Please don't ruin Star Trek by ending it in Klingon purgatory."

The entire season was shaky.

I think they would have even done better if they explained less.

It was a shame. The Battlestar final season had the same problems.

They made a bunch of silly from the hip explanations that pulled at the threads of the mythos.

LOST of all shows could have gotten away with telling you less.

So they refuse to talk about the finale but they will bitch about people complaining about it? I am so fucking over this show.

Thank you.

So, basically, they quickly pulled together a 12 minute film to explain about half the actual questions people had about the island and, rather than, make it part of the finale, expected people to buy a fucking DVD to get it.

Assholes.

I hope rex is right and that clip IS the most pirated thing ever.

I don't think it will be now that its on youtube. They'll probably throw it up on hulu and netflix streaming after the season is out on DVD and Blu-ray.

I got thinking: according to the DVD epilogue, the electromagnetism is why babies can't be born on the island and, in fact, that problem extended to the polar bears and other Dharma test animals.

So....if the electromagnetism is creating problems for pregnancies for animals as well, how did the wild boar have babies...or any other mammals on the island for that matter?

Anyone still think they weren't just making shit up as they went along?

People are really unfair to the producers. I'm sure there were tweaks made along the way to accomodate real world events (Ana Lucia and Libby dying right after the DUI arrests for example). And there were definitely tweaks made in response to fan reaction (Carlos and Nicky, the format of the last 3 years after the complaints year 3 was being padded etc).
I'm sure that the whole idea of the Smoke Monster, Locke, Jack, Adam and Eve, Jacob, probably even Desmond were there from the start and other little details came along the way. I do believe that the electromagnetism causing pregnancy issues was probably a bit of a background consequence of the "Incident" at the Swan station (which I'm sure was part of the plan). Just not every little detail mattered and when it came time to write the final season they scrapped certain unimportant answers because in the end it had no real bearing on the story.
Like the numbers. They left all the information to figure it out. In those podcasts a few years ago it was revealed that the numbers were the core mathematical equation of the universe. I don't think Jacob knew about them when he made his list, it was just an example of fate that the people who matched the core numbers were brought together.

Maybe boars are immune to magnetism because they were scottish.

http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/10/18/lost-finale-darlton/

 Quote:
Damon Lindelof and Cartlon Cuse are glad that you’re finally over hating the Lost finale. “Strangely, what happened over the last couple months, is that every single person loves it. It seems like that’s actually been a change,” Cuse said on the red carpet for the Spike Scream Awards over the weekend. (There was a big tribute to Lost during the ceremony, although it did not win best TV show.)

“The finale is like a relationship,” Lindelof said. “When it ends at first, you only remember why it ended. But as time goes on, you focus on why you were in it the first place. I think that is what is starting to happen now.”

Okay, I’ll accept that metaphor. The finale was indeed like the end of a relationship — one that had become baffling and unpredictable. “But we used to have so much fun!” I said, in the heat of a fight toward the end of things. And Lost said “I’m still having fun,” which struck me as very passive aggressive.

“I used to brag to my friends about what a special and unique show you were, how you held my interest and made my heart race, and surprised and delighted me for weeks,” I sighed.

“You said you liked CJ from West Wing, I gave you CJ from West Wing!” Lost said, throwing up his hands. “It’s like you change the rules every week.”

“No!” I said. “We were supposed to change the rules together! The crazy show and the crazy fan — it’s a classic,” I whimpered through my bitter, bitter tears.

“You can’t change me,” Lost insisted. “It’s not my fault you spent two seasons just seeing what you wanted to see. I never lied.”

A-sigh. I guess I’m over it? I mean, I know why we got together — it was really exciting there at the beginning — but I just can’t remember why we stuck it out for so long. Live and learn, I guess. Maybe this is why I’m having such a hard time trusting The Event….

What about you, PopWatchers? Have your feelings about the Lost finale changed? Are you over the bitter end to your love affair with the show? (Reporting by Nicholas E. White.)

6 Classic Series You Didn't Know Were Made Up on the Fly
  • The thing with Lost is that fans didn't just assume all the mysteries had an answer -- they were explicitly told so by the creators.

In a 2005 interview, co-creator Damon Lindelof said: "Every mystery that we present on the show ... all of those are questions that we know the answers to." He also said that "nothing in the show is flat-out impossible" and that everything so far could be explained by science. Sure, he was talking in the present tense -- but the present tense included the Smoke Monster, who ended up being the ghost of a 2,000-year-old guy who can impersonate dead people, and Michael's 10-year-old son, Walt, displaying supernatural powers that turned out to be ... actually, we have no idea, because that was never explained.

Fortunately, some of the writers have been a little more up front. You know the sequence of numbers that kept recurring in the show? The numbers that seemed to have so many mysterious influences (from making one man win the lottery to causing a plane to crash) that an explanation seemed almost impossible?

Season 1 writer David Fury (there's that guy again) says he has no idea what "the numbers" meant, and he's the one who came up with them.

Hey, what about the early episode where characters hear mysterious whispering in the jungle? Let's again hear what Fury said in an interview:

"I can't tell you what they are now, but I can tell you what they WERE. They were supposed to be the Others, lurking in the jungle. At that time, we hadn't yet settled on what the Others would be."

Well, what about that episode that implied Walt could summon animals, and even made a polar bear appear on the island after reading about one in a comic book? Fury says:
"That was the intent. But then ... things have changed since my time."

OK. Well, how about that Smoke Monster then?

"There was no mythology to speak of in place during the early episodes of the series. We were building it as we went along, discussing possibilities. ... Some thought of it as a monster of the id, much like in Forbidden Planet -- that maybe it appeared differently to everyone who saw it. The most tangible thought, as explained later by Rousseau, was that it functioned as a security system set up by the island's creators/early residents ... whatever we later decided the answer was."

    Whatever, indeed.

Thank you, Mxy.

I thought it was general knowledge that the ideas of the original/older writers were different than the new/later writers? What's the scoop here?
