Yep,it's copyright renewal time for Marvel's Captain Marvel.Since DC has totally abandoned the name,Marvel announced the title the other day for a July release.No creative team or if it's Mar-Vell back from the dead(no Skrulls please).Just an old logo font and star. The solicit for Avnengers #27 has a white-haired Captain Marvel look-a-like on the cover so it was only a matter of time. Captain M was last published in a mini-series that revealed he was a Skrull all along and not the time-lost Mar-vell they made him out to be(it actually wasn't a bad story but really kind of de-valued the character for a lot of people).

I know Marvel wants to keep the rights to the name but really,since "The Death of Captain Marvel" GN,nothing featuring a character with that name has done tremendous sales.Peter David's original run with Genis-Vell was smartly wrttien,progressed Rick Jones,Marlo and Genis as characters and was one of my favorite books at the time.Once they did the U-Decide gimmick and PAD turned Genis into an unreadable,unlikable,insane vllain,the character was better served by cancellation & nothing since has even come close.

Really,there's nothing Marvel can do with the character except trot out someone with the name every couple years or so.They kind of closed the door on it back in '82 and really should have let the name revert to DC and back to the original Captain Marvel.However,I will give Marvel a fair chance with this and may be pleasantly surprised..............maybe.

We may need to start an online petition for Marvel to sell us the rights to the name.

I can write a better Mar-Vell for $100,000.

Carol Danvers is ditching the "Ms." and adding "Captain". I'm not overly thrilled with the design.I first thought of Wonder Woman/Wonder Girl with the yellow stripes at the shoulder going to the star in the center.I'd get rid of those as I think it detracts from and hides the star.It's a pretty simplistic design overall otherwise. The helmet aspect doesn't really fit with the character I think.I guess they're going for a combined Mar-Vell/Kree military look. I also wonder if they're going to incorporate the Nega Bands or cosmic awareness into her character as those two things are tied into the Captain Marvel aspect pretty heavily. It hasn't been too awful long since "Ms.Marvel" came out so like I said before,I think this is just Marvel keeping the copyright up-to-date and Carol Danvers gets the title by default.Might be good though,so we'll see.

My guess is because she's fully clothed,there was no way he could do it.

Her current black and gold costume is much better than this. Why do these overly busy costume designs seem to be all the rage these days?

And why did she go to Tintin's barber?

I know you're joking but I'm guessing the intent was to play up the military side of Danver's character. The ear ring seems to be the only thing to me that doesn't seem to make sense design wise.

Anything's possible, I suppose that but doesn't look like any military haircut I've seen on a woman. They more typically look like this:

yeah. Danvers' do doesn't look like a military woman's at all (I'm basing on what I see in the movies). Her hairstyle actually looks closer to a military man's (or a bull dyke's)

Looks like Brigitte Nielsen or some kind of genetically engineered Nazi super-woman.
