4 of DC's second wave "New 52" books came out today.I read 'em and now I'll review 'em(spoiler-free of course).

Earth 2-Freakin' awesome!! It's truly what you want to read in a super-hero comic:action, adventure, good art, some nice set ups and an all-around good story. The action starts right off the first page and draws you right in to the book.Probably the best DCU book I've read since the relaunch. It's not what I expected and the only downside is that I wanted more after reading the last page.
I give it out of 10.

World's Finest:Huntress & Power Girl-Pretty good overall. It has nice art by George Perez(present day) and Kevin Maguire(flashback). Picks up from Earth 2 and continues.Power Girl's new outfit.....mmmm...I guess personal taste will dictate this one.I personally don't care for it and not just because of a lack of a boob window. It just doesn't do it for me.Huntress looks fine though. The issue wasn't spectacular but it wasn't disapointing either so I'll stick with this one for now to see how it goes.
This one gets out of 10

Dial H- Very nice. This book just screams "Vertigo" to me and I really like the weird vibe the writer sets for the tone of the book.Boy Chimney is visually one of the most distinctive designs I have ever seen and the artist conveys that knd of feel throughout the book. This comes in a close second for "Best DC relaunch" book. Anyone who is jaded with comics should pick this book up.Very, very good read.
This one gets out of 10

G.I. Combat- Starting off with "The War That Time Forgot" and "Unknown Soldier",this isn't a bad book at all and I like it better than "Men of War". The first half is "The War That Time Forgot" with nice art by Ariel Olivetti and while good reading,it stops just at the point you really get into the story...bummer. "Unknow Soldier"....was kind of "meh" and didn't really leave a lasting impression on me other than that ex-Liefeld protege Dan Panosian had some pretty scratchy art.I'd rather they did TWTTF for the whole issue, but hey for $3.99,you get some decent reading all around.

I give this book out of 10

Earth 2-I read it twice and loved it! I like what they're doing with Jay Garrick.

Worlds Finest-I didn't buy it because I don't like Levitz writing.

Dial H was weird and funny. The first ten or so pages was worth the price of the comic.

Earth 2-By far one of the best books this week. They did in one issue what has taken Johns 6 issues in Justice League.

World's Finest-Was only semi-interested in this but ended up skipping. Same with Dial H. I want to pick these up but with so many $3.99 books out some had to be dropped.

Based on the critique here, I might try this EARTH-2 when it hits the trades. Who are the creators on it? PLEASE don't say Geoff Johns......

Dial H for Hero was good and if you liked it you might want to check out some of the writer's books.

I'll be the odd duck and declare I didn't care for Earth 2. Much of my displeasure is rooted in that DC changed everything. I had hoped maybe this would be sort of a shelter for those of us who didn't care for the new 52. It's not awful but it's also not what I wanted.

Actually picked up some books yesterday. Went in to get X-O from the new Valiant launch and decided, based off good reviews here and elsewhere online, to pick up Earth 2 and Dial H. Earth 2 was good. I wasn't floored by it, but I think that's due to me reading mostly trades lately and being used to getting more story in one go. It's an interesting set-up being the JSA characters starting out fresh but in a modern setting. Interesting twist on Jay's origin too. I'll buy another issue. I was a big fan of the last Dial H for Hero title, and this one seems just as good. Interesting art and great, outlandish new superhero concepts.

I'm glad to hear that because, frankly, DC had to start acknowledging that the WWII JSA was getting too far distant in the past to work as a concept. That war began over seventy years ago and trying to find ways to explain why Jay, Alan, etc., aren't dead from old age was getting way too complicated and gimmicky.

I downloaded this first issue and was not instantly turned off. I think because the cover featured The Big Three, I just sort of glazed over it. But, when they all die (spoilers!) in the first ten pages, I was like, "Ohhhhhhhhh......it's the James Robinson of STARMAN fame writing this. Not the James Robinson of CRY FOR JUSTICE infamy. Right. Okay, I might be down with this."

I'm not going to make any real judgements yet, though. I'm going to wait until he's done with the first storyline. Then, we'll judge it from there. Just glad it won't have the typical GA tripe of Huntress and Powergirl and that whole 80's Infinity Inc. take. I hated all of that stuff...

I loved the early Infinity, Inc. issues. It got a little too blah later on in the series. The Streams of Conciosness 10 parter was classic stuff!

Yeah, I guess the earliest stuff is alright. But, I mean once Crisis changed everything is was hard to reconcile Wonder Woman's daughter suddenly not being. And then Gaiman had a romance with the character, using her in Sandman. And then Geoff Johns rubbed his incestual hackery all over her, Carter's son, and Doctor Fate in his early JSA. After that, the whole IInc. era just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

But, I do like Solomon Grundy.

When he says that he doesn't want to eat your dick, don't believe him. He's probably lying about that too.
