I'll buy it when it has characters I'm interested in.

Well, I guess it was just a matter of time until DC brought the title back in some form.

I loved the 7-issue 1973 reprint series.

And while I have the greatest affection for the reprint issues, there was a lot of good new material in the 50-issue 1986 series too.

In particular the various Michael Bair JSA origin issues, the Marshall Rogers golden age Batman issue, the Zatanna Zatarra origin issue, and in the last few issues the Legion "Arms Fall Off Boy" story, and Space Museum stories.

"Secret Origins" was a more sensible concept for a book back in the 1970s...back when DC didn't reboot characters and/or retell their origins every few months.

These days...what's the market? Who hasn't read Superman's origin du jour at least once?

Yeah...

I guess the question in the modern era becomes: which origin?
There's so damn many reboots, and even without a reboot, multiple re-tellings of the same origin story continuity. Often with clumsy attempts to tweak an already perfect story by less skilled hands.

I recall reading BATMAN 234 (1971) by O'Neil and Adams, and that was a big deal because it was the first time Two-Face had been in a story, and had his origin re-told, by O'Neil/Adams no less.

I was deeply annoyed about 10 years ago with the SPIDERMAN: BLUE, and DAREDEVIL:YELLOW re-tellings of those characters' origins.

But I still think there's a craving to see the ORIGINAL origin stories. I remember what a thrill it was for me to get Jules Feiffer's THE GREAT COMIC BOOK HEROES hardcover, that first collected the origins of all the classic Golden Age characters.
I also enjoyed the SUPERMAN FROM THE 30s TO THE 70s, and BATMAN FROM THE 30s TO THE 70s, that allowed you to see how these characters evolved over 3-plus decades in a variety of creative hands.

I'm actually less thrilled DC is doing new origin stories. I'd rather see an omnibus collection of origin stories from the 70's. Or a volume of 80's origin stories. Although at least many of these series with great origin stories such as Wein/Wrightson SWAMP THING, Kirby's THE DEMON, and KAMANDI, or Marshall Rogers' 1980's retelling of Batman's origin in DETECTIVE 27, are at least being presented in other collected editions.

I also recall how great it was when Stan Lee started his series of ORIGINS OF MARVEL COMICS books.

In an era where the original stories, only 15 or 20 years old, were far harder to find. Very useful to have them collected in one volume.

I have ORIGINS OF MARVEL COMICS, SON OF ORIGINS, and BRING ON THE BAD GUYS.

There was a fourth volume with Marvel's female characters that I never picked up.

But again, these origin stories are much more accessible and easy to find now.

I dont read comics anymore, but my take on this is its the New 52 origins, as I dont believe many of them have been told yet.
Its obviously going to be the classic origins with a few new tweaks.

While I'm not necessarily frantic for 'origin stories', I do like the idea of a revolving antholgy title. Stories about different characters from all over the DCU is a great idea for a book.

Given that it has a limited premise - in that it's to feature 'origins' - it can't be 'all Batman, all day long. So there's a shot at getting all sorts of characters in here.

I'm fuly game for this! :D

I could only find the female one when I was a kid! That and the Marvel health and fitness book that I just saw a couple of days ago in the most recent EW mag under their '"holy grails" page. Apparently it's worth a couple of thousand now!?! I ended up picking the female origins one. I had also lucked out and was able to pick up the DC one that had both golden and silver age origins of all their top heroes at some library sale. The Marvel Firsts trades really remind me of those old collections.

As you said this stuff at the time was hard to find at the time. Back than I just figured if I missed a comic at the drug store than that was it.

I've owned "Origins of Marvel Comics" since it came out. It's dog eared and looks like crap. It's also autographed by Stan Lee so I ain't parting with it

Very cool having Stan the man sign it. Just watched the Thor sequel and got a chuckle out of his cameo.

Sell it as soon as he dies, it will be worth at least a dollar more.
