Here's the deal:

I'll pick a character at random from the world of comic books. Your job is to reinvent that character.

Completely redetail the character from origins to powers to villains to costume (include sketches if you'd like). Change and improve anything and everything from the original design, but with full knowledge that you'd still like to appeal to the original audience (i.e; be careful not to change too much)

Upgrade, update, enhance, depower, redesign! whatever you want to do -- its your version!

Today's character: Deadshot

 -

Alter Ego: Floyd Lawton
Occupation: Mercenary
Base of Ops: Mobile
First Appearance: Batman #59 (June 1950)
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 193 pounds
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown
Motivation: Psychopath

An expert marksman who has fallen afoul of the Batman on numerous occasions, Floyd Lawton is both a top mercenary and a man who wants to die. He served as a core member of the Suicide Squad for most of the period when it was headed up by Amanda Waller, managing to survive every mission despite his wish to die. He has even been known to arm his targets in order that they may have a chance of killing their assassin, but he has not yet achieved his goal.

The characterization and costume are classic!! Those two things definitely stay put, but I would add a slightly new aspect by giving him enhanced abilities like reflexes, sight and endurance!!

Maybe play with the idea of a psychopath with a death wish who can not die!!

Actually, I was thinking along those lines myself. I was thinking, having him born during the wild west period of America's history and also having him be an ex-outlaw who discovers his immortality when him and his gang (probably his brothers like the "James Gang") were "bushwhacked" by the law. Being the only one to survive the ambush I'd have him flee the States (because he would be blamed for the massacre) and disappear for years. Over that time I'd have him go insane (by outliving all his loved ones and friends) and develop his "death wish". Then I'd have him reappear in Gotham.

I like this. However, I think it would be a better test of character to have him develop his death wish before he discovers his immortality. I think he should discover it when he tries to commit suicide a few times and it doesn't work out. That, to me, would be a lot better than a simple 'death wish' developing as a result of his immortality, giving us a chance to see a good internal struggle of fighting this 'death wish' and coming to terms with his own immortality and the futility of his desire.

That sound's original. I like. But what would you have drive him to his suicidal thoughts instead?

Make him an assassin, on the run from the cops and the Bat for murder. Tries to kill himself rather than get taken away. Fails. Realizes while in prison that he's immortal. From there, he could escape to try to prove his destiny wrong (i.e. - try to die). Perhaps when he escapes, he kills out of wishful thinking, bitterly envying every life he takes. I think that'd be a great, fresh way of approaching that character...

I think the burden of seeing everyone or thing he loves change or die and not be able to do anything about it is enough to drive him currayzee.

Yeah, but I think it's an overdone angle. I was trying to come up with something quasi-original, so as not to play too much off of cliches...
