Here's the deal:

I'll pick a character at random from the world of comic books. Your job is to reinvent that character.

Completely redetail the character from origins to powers to villains to costume (include sketches if you'd like). Change and improve anything and everything from the original design, but with full knowledge that you'd still like to appeal to the original audience (i.e; be careful not to change too much)

Upgrade, update, enhance, depower, redesign! whatever you want to do -- its your version!

Electronics whiz Ted Kord followed in his mentor's (Dan Garrett) footsteps when he became the second Blue Beetle. He created gadgets like his assortment of high-tech armor, flying Bug and strobe-gun to aid in his war on crime against Chicago's villains including the Madmen and Firefist. He then joined Justice League International and teamed up with Booster Gold in wacky capers that ended with his trademark "Bwah-ha-ha-ha!" Beetle's career hasn't been all laughs; he's battled brainwashing, a beating by Doomsday and even a heart condition. But he keeps bouncing back, teaming up most recently with both Robin and the Birds of Prey.

Reveal that he's actually Disco Steve.

I don't know what DC should do with the character as is, but I do know as a fan, that if it were up to me I'd just reboot the character. If it were up to me I'd reboot him back to the way Ditko intended. Ted Kord is supposed to be a cross between Peter Parker and Tony Stark. So the first thing I would do is make him just a little older than the Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker is right now (so I'd make Blue Beetle about 19 or 20). The second thing I'd do is make him a technical genius (a young prodigy if you will) that cares about science more than one day taking over control of Kord Industries and following in his late parent's footsteps. He'd have a problem dealing with responsibility. Lastly I'd have most of that change when he finds out that his Uncle (and proprietor of Kord Industries, until young Ted is ready to take over) Dan Garrett is really the Silver Age hero known as The Blue Beetle and is put in a position where he has to save his life.

From there the origin would most likely remain the same. Ted wouldn't be able to save his Uncle Dan (and the source of Dan's power, The Blue Scarab) but would none the less carry on his legacy as the second Blue Beetle.

So basically, I'd make him more relatable to teens, (a Ditko trademark) and DC's version of a young Spider-Man/Iron Man.

Nah, I like the pony idea better.

I'd make him more of a Bond-type character. More covert missions than typical hero vs. villain stories.

I like that...

I think a good place to start is to make him not have a bullet in his head and half his brains on the floor. Oh and get rid of the new Mexican guy who is posing as him......he is shitty.

Not a character that draws me in but making him more like Spiderman sounds like a smart move. Other than Steel, DC seems short on super smart inventor heroes.

Thing is he also sent that in for a revamped Batman, Superman, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Jimmy Olsen, Krypto etc etc etc etc etc

He didnt ever send it in to become a revamped member of the Legion as he felt it wasnt gay enough to be a Legion character!
