I get it, he likes old, cult movies. Instead of just learning from them, he tries to duplicate them with his own little verbose spin. He should just write scripts and hand them off to better directors like Rodriguez. He hasn't done anything in the director's chair worth a damn since Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction. And, yes, I include Kill Bill in that. Kill Bill sucked.

Just for the record, this is the article that inspired that post: http://www.mania.com/will-smith-tarantino-team-up_article_129836.html Director Quentin Tarantino wishes to tackle the genre of spaghetti westerns and it looks like he wants Will Smith as his lead character. HR is reporting that Django Unchained---a western which Tarantino finished scripting out last week---could be the first time where blockbuster superstar Will Smith boards one of Quentin's productions. With the project already scheduled to begin shooting later this year, Smith would be starring opposite the Academy Award-winning Christoph Waltz, who's set to play a German bounty hunter. Tarantino penned the script and will direct for the Weinstein Company.
Plot Concept: In Quentin Tarantino's new spaghetti Western, the title character Django is a freed slave, who under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) becomes a badass bounty hunter himself. After assisting Waltz on taking down some bad guys for profit, he is in turn assisted by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner. For those of you not in the know, Django was a popular spaghetti western from the 60's starring Franco Nero that spawned several imitators.

In the late 90s Tarantino was one of the best young writers/directors.
I think his ego killed his potential.
Now he is just stale and pretentious on top of that.
I didn't even think Pulp Fiction was all that great.

You're correct. I'll amend my statement to include Jackie Brown, but I really think it holds up on the merits of the cast: Jackson, DeNiro, and, most of all, Pam Grier.

So basically, Smith and Waltz are going to belabor 20 minute dialogues about slavery and hunting down criminals in the midst of about a dozen cameos.
Goodie.
I don't give a fuck what anyone says: Inglorious Basterds was self-indulgent retardation incarnate. And this looks like it's going to be even more of the same, except with the commentary being on the evils of slavery rather than the spread of Nazism.
I like talk pieces. I'll go so far as to say that Inglorious Basterds had good dialogue, but there's no way Tarentino could ever assume that this is practical story-telling. Every single character in the film had the same level of conversational finesse and the innate ability to profile one another. It's kinda fun to listen to every once in a while, but when it gets too repetitious, it doesn't make any fucking sense. As such, it's apparent that Tarentino is using every character as a reflection of his own words and nuances.

I actually preferred the Italian exploitation film that he ripped the title from than his film. It was okay and fun to see Hitler get riddled with bullets; but it really was just, meh.

Because everyone else loves him and hypes his latest movie as the greatest thing ever created on the day that movie is announced I can't stand him. Too many people tried to shove pulp fiction down my throat when it first came out and I haven't bothered with anything he's done since then.

Yeah, he does just need to do scripts. I like Tarantino, but you are right in pointing out that he has gotten tiring. I've thought his recent films were okay, but it does seem like they just hype the shit out of it as the "next big Tarantino film bigger than the previous next big Tarantino film" and it kills my interest a good bit to have it thrown in my face that I am "supposed" to like it and be giddy because it is "the next big thing from Tarantino."

Not counting short films or parts or other movies (Four Rooms: blech) I liked everything up to and including most of Kill Bill Vol. One (and chunks of part two).
But I thought that Parts One and Two could have easily been edited down to one movie.
Death Proof sucked ass.
I own ($5.00 discount bin) but still haven't seen Basterds (and from what I've read I'm not overly excited to).
And this latest movie doesn't interest me at all.
