The Power Records of the 1970's.

I just got one I found CONAN THE BARBARIAN, number PR-31, published in 1976. This one was later reprinted as CONAN 116 in 1980, but the version in the record set is offset printing on nicer paper, so what the hell, the price was right so I went ahead and got the original version.

The only other two I have are BATMAN stories by Neal Adams, that were also reprinted in the BATMAN ILLUSTRATED BY NEAL ADAMS, VOL 3,in hardcover and trade paperback. Although the Batman ones are extensively redrawn in the hardcover reprint, so I'm glad to have the originals. Some of the more obscure Adams material. These are all comic book size.

There were some 12" X 12" size LP records too. I have a STAR TREK (1975, number 8158) that also has art by Adams, but only on the front and back cover.

Here's a list of the ones that have been indexed:

The ones left blank I could find no information on. Even in the back-issue lists in the books themselves these numbers are not shown. Possibly they were numbers assigned to books that were not ultimately released, aborted projects.

There are also a number of 12" X 12" LP record album sized projects, I have a STAR TREK one, but like many, has no comic book included, just cover art (by Neal Adams) and the record itself. Some LP's have comic books, some don't. The comic book size ones are all comic books that include a smaller 45 rpm record.

Here's a comicvine page that shows most of the covers in order, although it has no information on the contents.

https://comicvine.gamespot.com/book-and-record-set/4050-38705/

I thought for many years that these were all done by Continuity Associates, but it turns out, only in the 1975-1978 period, and maybe a later return to Continuity with the Buckler stories toward the end.
But they began as Marvel reprints (10-17).
Then Planet of the Apes adaptations (18-21).
Then the ones produced by Continuity (24-35), then switched to a series of Classics Illustrated type adaptations (37-42, and 47). With a few STAR TREK stories tossed in at the end (45-46).
They appear to have made a variety of attempts to reach an audience already reading comics, with an initial offering of Marvel reprints, and several other pushes with the PLANET OF THE APES adaptations, SPACE 1999, STAR TREK after, aiming at different trends in popular culture.

Here's the most thorough list I've seen so far, listing the comics first, and then the larger 12" X 12" record albums:

And still a lot missing. The last issues I filled in are no doubt very difficult to find.
