Cherokee Nation responds to Senator Warren, says DNA test 'useless to determine tribal citizenship'

 Quote:
The Cherokee Nation responded to the results of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren's DNA test on Monday, arguing that “a DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship.” The response came after the Democratic senator revealed that, based on tests, she has Native-American ancestry “in the range of 6-10 generations ago.”

"Current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person’s ancestors were indigenous to North or South America," Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. said in a press release.

"Sovereign tribal nations set their own legal requirements for citizenship, and while DNA tests can be used to determine lineage, such as paternity to an individual, it is not evidence for tribal affiliation," Hoskin continued. "Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven. Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage."

Warren took the rare step of sharing DNA test results examining her long-challenged Native-American bloodline earlier Monday. According to the analysis, as first reported by The Boston Globe, “the vast majority” of Warren’s family tree is European and there is “strong evidence” she has Native-American ancestry - albeit anywhere from 1/64 to 1/1,024.

Warren, who is mulling a 2020 presidential run, repeatedly has been mocked by President Trump for claiming Native American heritage. The president has called her "Pocahontas" while criticizing her on the campaign trail.

In an apparent response to those jabs, Warren produced a video for her Senate re-election campaign playing up the results of her latest DNA test.

In it, Warren said: “The president likes to call my mom a liar. What do the facts say?”

Stanford University Professor Carlos D. Bustamante, who did the analysis, replied: “The facts suggest that you absolutely have Native American ancestry in your pedigree.”

TRUMP SETS TERMS FOR CHARITY DONATION AFTER WARREN REVEALS DNA TEST RESULTS

Trump once offered to donate $1 million to a charity of Warren's choice if she took a DNA test as part of a debate challenge. But on Monday, while touring Hurricane Michael damage along the Gulf Coast, the president said he would donate only "if I can test her personally."

He added, "That will not be something I will enjoy doing either."

"I won't sit quietly for @realDonaldTrump's racism, so I took a test," Warren later tweeted. "But DNA & family history has nothing to do with tribal affiliation or citizenship, which is determined only – only – by Tribal Nations. I respect the distinction, & don't list myself as Native in the Senate."

Whoops! We couldn't access this Tweet.

The Elizabeth Warren PR press release version from CNN:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/15/politics/donald-trump-elizabeth-warren-dna-1-million/index.html

 Quote:
Warren first faced scrutiny for her purported Native American heritage during her 2012 Senate race. But Trump has revived and amplified the controversy as he eyes Warren as a possible rival, frequently mocking her with the nickname "Pocahontas."

But Warren now has documentation to back up her family lore -- a analysis of her genetic data performed by Carlos Bustamante, a professor of genetics at Stanford and adviser to Ancestry and 23 and Me.

Bustamante's analysis places Warren's Native American ancestor between six and 10 generations ago, with the report estimating eight generations.

They selectively omit that it DOESN'T prove she's Cherokee.

Or that the level of more broadly "Native American" blood is "anywhere from 1/64 to 1/1,024." So it doesn't prove much of anything.

CNN also selectively omitted that the Cherokee Nation president blasted Elizabeth Warren's claim of Native American street cred based on a DNA test as completely illegitimate.

 Quote:

Trump also said Warren owes the nation an apology.

"She owes the country an apology," Trump said when questioned whether he himself owed Warren an apology for calling her "Pocahontas."

A panelist on Fox's 6pm news broadcast jokingly said that Elizabeth Warren might be a secret agent for the GOP, in the distraction she provided from the midterm election today.

News/opinion anchors on MSNBC and CNN were saying the same thing about "creepy porn lawyer" Avenatti, that he was a secret operative for the GOP, when his witness against Brett Kavanaugh completely collapsed, and the sleazines of it all turned the country against the Democrats and turned the tide of the mid-term election against many Demcorat senate and congress candidates.

Elizabeth Warren reminds me of Dana Carvey portraying "The Church Lady" on Saturday Night Live.

The Church Lady.

Elizabeth Warren.

That slightly constipated/slightly crazy look in her eyes.
She's a perfect example of what I hate about the left. A left-wing academic idealogue who re-shapes the world to conform to her ideology, rather than the reality in front of her. And increasingly, a demagogue who splinters the nation along race and class lines. An entitled white, who endlessly (ironically) rails on the "white privelege" she exploits every day. And manufactures a Native American background just so she can bemoan victimhood when her own white privelege ever becomes a political vulnerability.

Lol, Trump is the ugliest piece of shit that still has to "grab them by the pussy" even with all that old family money. Looking like the church lady isn't the worst thing. And if it's a competition you have some guys on your side that could beat her. I think it was a mistake for Warren to engage Trump but as for the complaint about establishing tribal affiliation, she said that also when she announced the DNA results. The thing is this was something that was told to her by her mother. She has republican siblings that have vouched for it. It is part of their family lore. She won't beat him by playing his game though.

"Told to her by her mother" is a narrative.
There's no proof of that.

It is also true that there is not one shred of proof that Warren is even in the slightest Native American. Testament to that is how the Cherokee Nation themselves disowned Warren as a fraud and a disgrace.

My favorite is when Tucker Carlson last light interviewed an ACTUAL descendant of Pocahontas, who said Warren is proven illegitimate, that it is a dissgrace how Warren continues to exploit this, and that Warren owes Cherokee and Native Americans nationwide an apology.
In case you missed it, 1) the DNA test compared her DNA to native Americans in South America, not with Cherokee DNA. and 2), the average American is 0.018 Native American, and Warren is cited as being 0.009
Half as legitimately Native as the average U.S. citizen.

I was actually planning to get a 23-and-me DNA test. The Elizabeth Warren fiasco has made me see that these tests are highly questionable, and not worth the time and money.
Other Native Americans I've seen interviewed have made the point that Warren PRETENDING to be Cherokee, actually stole an equal-opportunity career position from someone out there who legitimately IS a Native American minority.

And for a 72 year old guy, Trump is in remarkably good shape.

I'd actually say the same of 78 year old Nancy Pelosi. Certifiably insane, but still remarkably attractive for her age.

I'll just leave at you're the one who started talking about physical appearance in this thread. I thought Trump was gross when he was a democrat. He's just as ugly on the outside as on the inside.

Ann Coulter reacts to Elizabeth Warren DNA test
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEErghZHEHA

Informative AND funny.

I actually think Elizabeth Warren just committed political suicide, drawing the ire of her fellow Dems. It manifests a self-absorbtion and complete lack of common sense for her to do this less than a month before the very close midterm election, taking the Dems off message.

The time for her to do this would have been a week or so after the midterm election.

I think like "1% Biden" she didn't have much political potential anyway. Among Kamala Harris, Corey Booker and other 2020 contenders, she's just another race/class warfare demagogue.

While across multiple elections, Biden never got more than 1% in any presidential primary, he is relatively likeable by comparison.
