In a bit of nostalgia, I saw Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was on last night, and watched it while I was cooking dinner. As I recall, this was the first of the annual Christmas specials released (in 1964). Followed in succeeding years by A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965), The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (1966), Little Drummer Boy (1968), and Santa Claus is Coming to Town (1970), at least the ones I enjoyed growing up.

Rankin-Bass produced a number of other Christmas specials up through 1985, some of which I've seen, many I haven't.

But on the subject of Rudolph, I looked up its origins, and was surprised he was only created in 1939, by a guy named Robert L. May, who was actually Jewish, and did it as a Christmas promotional book for his employer Montgomery-Ward. First done as a free promotional giveaway book, then years later re-released as a retail children's book, then a hit song in 1949, and finally 25 years later, an animated stop-action Christmas special.

This below linked article has the history, along with photos of creator Robert L. May and his family:

It's kind of funny how he tried out the initial book/poem on his daughter to test its appeal to children, and later on other relatives.
And really nice that the owner of Montgomery-Ward a few years after gave May ownership of the Rudolph character he created, and allowed him to personally reap the profit from his creation.

And now... the PC maniacs want to ban it for having an alleged bullying message. Which is ironic, because it's about persevering over rejection and contributing to the world with what makes you different from everyone else.

I googled to see if Rudolph was under attack by liberals and surprise, it's mostly conservatives attacking liberals in general. Ingraham guesses liberals like child pornagraphy better than Rudolph, lol. It's not a surprise that Rudolph was created by somebody who was probably bullied themselves for being different.

I don't know how, in your twisted logic, you blame conservatives for a liberal attack on the Rudolph Christmas special:

It Finally Happened: Liberals Wage War on Christmas Classic ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’

 Quote:
Christmas is next on the left’s holiday hit list this year. Previously, progressives have attacked Halloween decorations and “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” Now, they’re trying to take Rudolph from us.

The Huffington Post tweeted a video Wednesday afternoon explaining the “problematic” nature of the beloved “Rudolph.”

“‘Rudolf The Red-Nosed Reindeer’ is a holiday classic that returns to TV each holiday season,” the video’s text states. “But lately, viewers are noticing the tale may not be so jolly after all, and they’re sharing their observations online.”
Apparently, some of the complaints stem from Rudolph’s father berating him about his nose.

“Former fans are pointing out Rudolph’s father verbally abuses him,” the video says.
It’s apparently also “problematic” that Rudolph’s classmates bully him.
“From now on, gang, we won’t let Rudolph join in any reindeer games, right?” Rudolph’s coach said in the classic special.

Rudolph wasn’t accepted at the start of the film because it’s a story about learning tolerance and acceptance. It wouldn’t be an interesting story if there wasn’t a conflict.
Plus, the whole “reindeer games” part is straight from the original “Rudolph” song. If anyone forgets, this might be a reminder:

This should be the one film that liberals can’t attack considering how much they pretend to care about “tolerance.”
But liberals are even complaining about the way in which Santa learned to accept Rudolph.
“In the end, Rudolph & friends learn the bitter truth…” the video said before displaying a tweet that says, “deviation from the norm will be punished unless it is exploitable.”

Instead of looking at Santa’s acceptance of Rudolph as a good thing, liberals see Santa as being exploitative.
It’s absurd to even describe Santa’s relationship with the reindeer as exploitative. They only work a single day of the year and receive food and housing in return.
In fact, the reindeer should be grateful that Santa hasn’t replaced them with a more high-tech mode of transportation.

Liberals are hell-bent on making everyone as miserable and offended as they are.
Thankfully, most Twitter users seemed to refuse HuffPo’s anti-Rudolph agenda.

Leave it to liberals to spin a film about tolerance into something “problematic.”

Whoever first complained about the Rudolph special, it was injected into the Twitter-stream by Huffington Post, not "conservatives".

It's a big world out there where you're going to find people that are upset/offended about pretty much anything. I don't have much time for that nonsense. This isn't a liberal thing.

If it was simply some random blogger or message board commentator I would agree but When a major liberal website like HuffPo says it's a thing, it's a liberal thing.

From what I see the HuffPost piece is mostly a couple of tweets with some of those being more on the humorous snarky side. All of them aimed at fictional characters. Contrast that with Laura Ingrahm's nastiness aimed at liberals. This is a popular Christmas show that I (liberal me) enjoyed watching many times over the years.

Except that they're relentlessly attacking Trump every day, as a brick in the wall of liberal media.
And really, relentlessly attacking any Republican.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any politically aware person who doesn't see HuffingtonPost as a centerpiece of the liberal media.

 Quote:
HuffPost (formerly The Huffington Post and sometimes abbreviated HuffPo)[2] is a
politically left-leaning American news and opinion website and blog that has localized and international editions.[3][4][5][6] It was founded in 2005 by Andrew Breitbart, Arianna Huffington, Kenneth Lerer and Jonah Peretti.[7][8] The site offers news, satire, blogs, and original content and covers politics, business, entertainment, environment, technology, popular media, lifestyle, culture, comedy, healthy living, women's interests, and local news.

The Huffington Post was launched on May 9, 2005,
as a liberal commentary outlet, blog, and an alternative to news aggregators such as the Drudge Report, and it
continues to maintain a politically liberal stance.

Sorry but I don't see what that has to do with what I said? Nor was I claiming they were nonpartisan.

You seem to imply that HuffPost is not a partisan liberal site, and that their promoting complaints about the Rudolph Christmas special wasn't a manifestation of liberalism.

My point is, HuffPost is a centerpiece of the liberal media, and it's dishonest to say the liberal media isn't promoting that anti-Rudolph narrative.

I made no sort of implication, like FOX being partisan conservative I think we can agree HuffPost is liberal. I don't agree with your take on the article but I also wouldn't use Laura Ingrahm's hateful batshit crazy comment about liberals enjoying child porn to generalize about conservatives either. The HuffPost piece isn't calling for the cartoon to be banned btw. The criticism is aimed at the behavior of the characters who were actually behaving in a crappy way to Rudolph. Do you think it was okay for the coach not to let Rudolph play in any reindeer games? No, he like the others were being assholes. I think where the article misses the point is that after Rudolph saves Christmas the characters realize their actions were wrong.

It's one of my favorites
