Donald Trump is now in Hanoi for another summit with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un.

And rather than support that effort to eliminate nuclear missiles aimed at U.S. cities, what do Democrats do?
They schedule a Congressional hearing of Trump's former lawyer, and already convicted tax evader and perjurer Michael Cohen, the very same day Trump arrives in Hanoi! We were promised by Dems this would be the smoking gun with documents galore proving Trump's secret collusion with the Russians, and documented checks and payments by Trump to Cohen proving his guilt.

But once again, it was like Geraldo Rivera opening Al Capone's vault, and there was nothing there. It blew up in Democrats' faces.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) opened the hearings appealing Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) to delay the hearing for a week or so, in order to prevent it from overshadowing Trump's peace summit in Hanoi. Cummings refused. Jordan also pointed out that Cummings and other Democrats have been stumping based on the promise of that hearing, giving speeches telling constituents to write and request impeachment hearings. Again, this is a Soviet-style investigation, where there is no proof of Trump's guilt of anything, and rather than seeking evidence to either prove Trump's guilt or innocence, the Democrats' soviet approach is to begin with the presumption that Trump must be guilty of something, and follow the Soviet approach of manufacturing the crime to conform to that preconceived guilt.




But even so, the Democrats looked stupid and hypocritical today. And nothing they hyped turned out to be proveable or believable. Cohen is still a liar, just like the last time he testified before Congress. And he's still going to jail.

And despite Democrats' best efforts to sabotage Trump, the spotlight will be on his Haoi summit tomorrow.

The testimony in its entirety, from 10 AM this morning until almost 6 PM, subtracting roughly an hour for periodic breaks. As much or as little as you can stomach. I recommend at least seeing the opening statements by the Democrat and Republican committee leaders (about 5 minutes each), and Cohen's lurid full statement (about 30 minutes), followed by questioning by each congressmember, where there is some fireworks and theatre, but little else really eventful.

Democrats had nothing new to offer with calling the discredited Cohen in, but they did it anyway, just to distract from Trump's accomplishments, and to (as it turned out, unsuccessfully) throw some mud on the president.

I saw a report that the other networks gave over 400 minutes to the Cohen hearings, and only 12 minutes to the Hanoi conference.

But the networks suddenly gave it way more time and CNN became giddy when the talks broke down.

Nothing too important, just trying to negotiate the disarmament of a nuclear-armed North Koreea with missiles to carry them, that could, and have threatened to, kill tens of millions of Americans.
Ah well... Michael Cohen, already convicted for perjury in testimony to Congress, repeating the same unsubstantiated gossip is so much more important. Yes, it definitely deserved 40 times the coverage.
