DC seems to lean more towards simply hitting the reset button and overwriting the past (except when they tried to backpedal multiple times). Marvel's most recent universe shakeup is just a series of pulling stuff out of thin air, thinking that it's so clever. It all started with a silly premise - that Fury is really old and has been protecting the universe from all the important threats both cosmic and mystic (with a gamma bullet rifle.) and that the secrets he and Uatu have revealed turned the Marvel U into what it is now.
