Essentially, no one saw it coming, and now everyone is screaming in everyone else's ear about how intelligence dropped the ball. Allegedly, this is potentially more embarrassing than 9/11 because this time around, there wasn't even a hint of the occurrence.
I actually wasn't aware of this, but since we still have troops that are stationed OCONUS in the Middle East as well as Europe, US military intelligence helps to sift through information that's networked by the other major intelligence agencies and militaries within the EU. As such, this is particularly relevant to us as a terrorist-fighting nation for more than the usual reasons.
