I wanted to joke "another reason not to visit Florida", but while this one was contracted in Florida, there are sporadic cases nationwide, some of them linked to illegal immigrants not screened for diseases when they come here.

They seem to always be contracted by people with small cuts that provide an entry point for the bacteria. And if not diagnosed quickly, can be life-threatening.
