Trump was still at that time a registered Democrat and friend of the Clintons, but in any case he wasn't a threat to the Democrat nominee.
The liberal media
loved Perot and his third-party candidacy when it split the Republican vote, allowing Bill Clinton to win in 1992 (with 43% of the vote) and again in 1996.
This interview was in 1999, before the Dems suddenly rationalized their candidate lost because of third-party candidates in 2000 and again in 2004, and now use that rationalization again for 2016.
And really, presidential elections are only legitimate now when Democrats win. Regardless of the conspiracy used to rationalize why Democrats lost.
