Lt. Col. Douglas MacGregor is someone I wish was in Trump's white house or security council. He says that the airstrikes the protests were in response to were a mistake, that Trump (after wisely resisting previous attacks on Iran and its proxy meilitias in Iraq) took bad advice to bomb Iranian-backed Shi'ite militias, who despite their ties to Iran, were killing Sunni ISIS fighters.

MacGregor's advice is for Trump and the U.S. to simply withdraw, and let the Sunnis and Shias kill each other, "as they have for a thousand years" without us.
