Another I love is FUTURE DAY, published in 1979, an anthology hardcover book that collects 7 nice early short stories by Gene Day, reprinted from a shortlived SF magazine called SPACE WARS, and two others, from QUESTAR magazine, and a Star Reach anthology IMAGINE.

2. "Hive" 6p..........................r QUESTAR 2, Summer 1978

3. "Days of Future Past" 6p...........r IMAGINE 2, June 1978

4. "Gauntlet" 6p......................r SPACE WARS, Dec 1978

5. "Paper Dragon" 5p..................r SPACE WARS, Feb 1978

6. "War Games" 10p....................r SPACE WARS, Apr 1978

I took the time to index them for you, since I've never observed them indexed anywhere else. I especially like the last story, that opens with a nice double page spread, about a fleet of ships of a dying race in space. I also see in its design a visible Steranko influence, as there is in much of Day's work, particularly his MASTER OF KUNG FU run (issues 102-111, 114-118, 120, and inks over Zeck in 76-101).

The back cover has the only photo of Gene Day I've seen. He died at age 30 of a heart attack. He wasn't a guy who lived the wild life, but he was a heavy smoker.

I'm very lucky to have come across this book in my local comic shop back in 1996. I've frequently pulled these stories off the shelf to enjoy again.
