NYT coronavirus report outlines how Trump could have seen what was coming

CNN)A new report on the Trump administration's missteps in the early days of the coronavirus' spread into the US was published in the New York Times on Saturday, detailing new instances showing how President Donald Trump ignored the warnings of his advisers about the lethal infectious disease approaching America's doorstep.

According to the report, Dr. Robert Kadlec, the top disaster response official at the Department of Health and Human Services, convened the White House coronavirus task force on February 21. During his meeting, the group conducted a mock-up exercise of the pandemic. It predicted 110 million infections, 7.7 million hospitalizations and 586,000 deaths. As a result, the group "concluded they would soon need to move toward aggressive social distancing, even at the risk of severe disruption to the nation's economy and the daily lives of millions of Americans."
However, it would take more than three weeks for Trump to enact social distancing guidelines on March 16.
Two days after that meeting Kadlec learned of human-to-human transmission from asymptomatic individuals, the Times report states. But instead of immediately implementing mitigation steps, the President's focus turned to messaging.

Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, issued a warning that the virus would disrupt daily life. Trump canceled a meeting where mitigation efforts would be discussed. Instead, he appointed Vice President Mike Pence in charge of the task force and funneled coronavirus messaging through him. There were also other administration officials who went on television saying the virus was contained.
Over nearly three weeks from February 26 to March 16, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States grew from 15 to 4,226. Since then, more than half a million Americans have tested positive for the virus and authorities say hundreds of thousands more are likely infected.
The Times also describes how Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar had been briefing the President on the issue.
Azar "briefed him about the potential seriousness of the virus" during a January 18 phone call. A few days later, in what appeared to be his first comments about the virus to the press, Trump told a reporter at Davos, "We have it totally under control. It's one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It's -- going to be just fine."
On another call on January 30, Azar warned Trump of the possibility of a pandemic. Trump reportedly responded by saying Azar was being alarmist.

First off, the New York Times is a paper that has made its holy mission to bring down Trump, and has multiple times reported unconfirmed sources that have blown up in their faces and hurt their credibility as a newspaper.

Second, I still don't see any specifics of anything that Trump did that quantifiably caused harm.
Simultaneously, they ignore that N Y city mayor Deblasio, his health director, and other Democrat politicians were openly encouraging people in the New York area to "not be racist like Trump" and go out and socialize in Chinatown festivals and bars in New York city. Which JUST MIGHT be the reason that New York City is now experiencing the worst outbreaak of Covid-19 and deaths of ANY REGION IN THE WORLD!!!!!

But yeah, sure, blame it on Trump, who halted travel from China and stopped 20,000 potential Covid-19 infected people a day from entering the United States.
Hindsight is 20-20, but the fact is, Trump did way more than any of his critics would have done. As their comments alleging he was racist and over-reacting for taking any preventive steps clearly demonstrates.



Ignoring his intelligence warning him of the pandemic certainly did cause harm. Apparently you seem to think a mayor who didn’t have access to the intelligence the POTUS did was supposed to make more informed decisions. Trump said nobody could have seen it coming. I think that is an obvious lie. He just made bad decisions and ignored his own intelligence. The one thing Trump did do earlier on is being way overblown. As I cited earlier Trump actually didn’t halt all travel from China. US citizens were not restricted. With such a contagious virus it was pretty foolish to somehow think the virus respected someone’s citizenship. It’s not a case of hindsight. It’s a case of an unfit leader and a nation paying a steeper price for it.

This is from the same paper that tried to revive the allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, a story that blew up in their faces when people quoted in the article went public and said "I never said this". And the other "confirming source" turned out to be a partisan Democrat lawyer with a grudge against Kavanaugh from when they clashed during the Whitewater speciaal investigation over 20 years ago.

That's on top of getting the Russia "Collusion" investigation wrong, the Mueller special investigation wrong, the Eric Ciaramella whistleblower/Ukraine story wrong, and many other stories from the New York Times over the last 3 years where they reported something, and it was proven to be completely false a day or two later, no sources, no facts, just another Democrat/liberal-media attack on the president.
The N Y Times also alleged Fauci and Trump were clashing and parting ways when on one day Fauci was not onstage because of other commitments. No apologies or correction from the media.
The N Y Times also alleged that Trump was infected with Covid-19, so Trump took a Covid-19, and Vice President Pence, to prove they were not infected. Then the media railed on how Trump had access to Covid-19 testing that most of America doesn't.

So once again, with no sources or facts, this is just another propaganda New York Times hit job.

Why are you so obsessed with slandering Trump?
I think it's to hide the incompetence and hypocrisy in your own Democrat Bolshevik party. Who railed on Trump as "over-reacting" and "racist" for taking the preventive steps that he did, demonstrating that they the Democrats would do a lot less to protect the country if they had the White House. And after 2 months, Biden finally admitted that Trump made the right move Jan 31st by suspending all travel from China. Again, that was 20,000 potentially infected Chinese travellers a day who would have been entering the country.

Your Trump-misdirecting propaganda campaign also hides that Democrats like Cuomo, Deblasio and Pelosi were openly encouraging people to go to social festivals in New York and California where huge numbers were infected at a rate far higher than anywhere in the country. Why does New York have a higher infection rate than anywhere else in the world? THAT'S WHY.

Your lying propaganda campaign also hides that New York City since 1993, and especially since 9-11-2001, has been well known as the most sought-after islamic and bioterrorism target in the world, and in a 2015 report which I linked in an above post Gov. Andrew Cuomo was specifically warned that he was short several thousand respirators. But Cuomo ignored that report and spent money on green energy environmental projects instead, and now blames Trump for his own failure.

Actually the Times story is sourced but they are anonymous. Also Trump has acknowledged at least part of it but says he never saw it. It would be pretty amazing that he had no briefings or intelligence warning him of a pandemic or steps to prepare for one prior to March. Trump has told so many lies he has zero credibility. Even quoting Trump on his actual lying on tape gets attacked as “fake media”.
