I checked out 9Jack9's Wildfire sketches (link in his sig - they're great!) and it got me thinking about the character himself.

We haven't seen much of Drake in the recent series. This guy is a real powerhouse, he's got a tragic story (IMHO) and is screaming for more panel-time and character development.

We're not talking white bread and mayonnaise here, Wildfire must have some pretty fascinating conflicts and emotions going through his mind. Unfortunately, it's been mostly restricted to an affection for Shikari and swearing. This is one Legionnaire I would like to see more of in the book. If Timber Wolf rated 3 issues (if you include the one with Tinya), certainly Wildfire should have at least one in which he is the feature.

You know what fat cramer? You DO rule!

Thanks for the nice words and FUCK YES Wildfire deserves some spotlight, a subplot or just some more screen time to be his wonderful self and kick nass!! The man's a heavy hitter and the newbies need to be reminded of that!

It the Legion academy thing works out, he might not be around for screen time.

As for his backstory, from the way DnA write him, I think they want to forget all that. It didn't sound like his history was well received by the fans, and this might just be the writers' attempt to get around it all. I'm not arguing it's good or not, I just think DnA are looking to leave it behind.

Personally, I'm glad DnA are choosing not to mention his shitty Frankenstein origin. He just needs to be seen diving into the fray, throwing anti-energy (or whatever he's made of now) at the bad guys and frying their asses, then going back to the clubhouse and having a tragic romance with one of the ladies.

Wildfire is One of my ALL time
favorite super heroes.

I was quite fortunate to find a
custom Wildfire figure on Ebay
a year or so ago.

He looks right at home with the
Nine Legion Direct figures I have
so far. ( though I wish They'd
make figures of Other Girl
Legionairres, as Saturn Girl is
the only female Legion member to
be immortalized as an action figure.
Love to see all the Shooter - Swan
members as figures, then to start on
the OTHER Legion Eras.....!! )

He has an awesome power, great origin
( Pre boot ) and a tragic yet heroic
life.

Thanks go to Mr. Cockrum for
creating Drake Burroughs!

Wildfire is one of the most screwed over characters in the Legions history. After Levitz left Giffen didn't want anything to do with him. He gets rid of him as soon as the 5YG starts, and when he does reapear after about 4 years in the end of V4 they turn him into a body stealing freak with an ugly costume. Then his is gone for another 5 years until they give us the reboot mess, and even then they throw him back into limbo for another year or so before DnA rescued the poor bastard.
For such a classic character he got treated like dogshit for way to long. Being a diehard Wildfire fan it is great to see him regaining his former glory, and would love for a solo tale staring everyones favorite ball of energy.

Or at the very least show him to be the heavy-hitter he is on the team rather than just get clobbered in combat for being headstrong.

His battle with the Progeny armada in "Legion Lost" was amazing and convinced me that DnA can do justice to the Drake. I just hope we see more of that instead of stuff like him getting taken out by The Persuader (but then again, everyone who wasn't Timberwolf got taken down a bit too easily in that issue).

Aaahhh, much better .... I didn't know that sending in an avatar meant that it was up for grabs for anyone else to use as well -- oh well...

Sorry Jack it just looked so good that I didn't even think about it or relize that it was yours. I'll change it back. It is a very good drawing you did.

Take it as a compliment 9Jack. Two Wildfires can't be a bad thing. And didn't he have a brother in the 5YL series?

Hey, thanks for changing back -- I didn't mean to give the impression that you had actually stolen it from me or anything. I was just unaware that sending an avatar request to Rob meant that it was put up for grabs. Thanks for the nice words though :)

That was me. I sent it to Rob (it was a pain to finally get it down to less than 1kb) and he let me use it as an avatar. ZeroMan was kind enough to relinquish it once he found out I had made it for myself.

All I really know of the character is post boot and I don't dislike him but he hasn't become one of my favs but maybe if he get a couple of good stories I might want to see more of him.

He had a more interesting story pre-boot, better developed as a character.

He's come a long way since being re-introduced though.

Maybe if he had a romantic entanglement, he'd get more time. Although Levitz didn't really go much further than having Dawnstar keep him at arms length then Wildfire would blow himself up in a fit of frustration over and over.
