quote: -- Below is an article found on CNN.com about The Rock’s latest movie venture:
NEW YORK (Variety) -- Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is ready to swing the two-by-four in the MGM remake of "Walking Tall," a film that will likely go into production in early summer.
The 1973 film's premise of a Southern sheriff's mission to remove corruption from his county has been brought up to date. In the new version, The Rock's character returns home from serving his country and finds his small town infected by drugs, violence and general menace. Like the original character of Buford Pusser, who was played by Joe Don Baker, the protagonist still settles disputes with the very persuasive assist of a well-swung two-by-four.
The Rock has sparked to David Klass's script and his participation is subject to the studio signing him quickly. A deal is expected to be made quickly and a director hired right away.
MGM's courtship of the Rock will have to be quick if the studio wants to tie up his next slot. The Rock followed "The Scorpion King" with the Peter Berg-directed "Helldorado" for Universal, and studios all over town are developing vehicles for him, including Universal's "Spy Hunter," "Johnny Bravo" at Warner Bros., "Walk Like a Dragon" at Paramount, and "Skip Tracer" and "King Kamehameha" at Sony.
WTF! "Walking Tall" was based on a true story. How the hell are they going to pass The Rock off as a white Tenn. sheriff? I fucking hate Hollywood for this bullshit. They give no consideration to if the persone they hire (notice I refused to call him and actor) even fits the part. Damnit! Now I've got to break something I'm so mad.

Well, he is a wrestler, and therefore, an actor.
That is quite silly. Next we'll have Ving Rhames playing Hitler in a buddy action-comedy. [ 01-26-2003, 09:27 PM: Message edited by: Disco Steve ]

This is really beginning to look like a cluster fuck: quote: May 15, 2003 - According to The Hollywood Reporter, actresses Ashley Scott (A.I., Birds of Prey) and Kristen Wilson (Dr. Dolittle, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind) have been added to the cast of MGM's Walking Tall remake, opposite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
The original told the story of Southern sheriff Buford T. Pusser who goes on a one-man crusade to rid his county of corruption with the help of his trusty baseball bat. The film spawned two sequels, 1975's Walking Tall Part II and 1977's Final Chapter – Walking Tall. In the modernized version a man takes the law into his own hands after returning from serving his country to find his small town infected by drugs and violence.
Scott will play The Rock's love interest, and Wilson will play his sister. Neal McDonough (Minority Report, Ravenous) also stars as the film's main bad guy.
Kevin Bray (All About the Benjamins) will direct Walking Tall from a script by David Klass (Kiss the Girls).
Shooting is expected to get underway in July.

I'm still waiting for Morgan Freeman starring in Oliver Stone's "Lincoln" (ala the Dana Carvey Show) myself.
Or Steve Buscemi starring as The Black Panther ... the role he was born to play!

Why don't they just make an original movie about a Hispanic sheriff in a small Southern town?

Jesus, that was horrible. Lister was no where near being a slob. Most of the humor was watered down "for American audiences" (even though the original was already a huge hit stateside). And Rimmer was obviously gay. That actor was flaming.

Biggest pisser rigt now is the release schedule on these DVDs! Considering there are 8 series of Red Dwarf,at the rate they are releasing them its gonna be four years before we have them all,and thats only if they dont make anymore series in that time!
Last one was around Feb & the next one is due Nov. Its even worse for the US release dates!

Yeah, I gotta wait until Feb. to get any of them. And what the hell happened to the box design where all the spines put next to each other would make a big Red Dwarf logo?

Yeah Im pissed about the release dates as well! can someone explain to me why they chose this marketting strategy? Are they figuring if they release them all at once people will buy their favorite seasons only? If thats the case wouldnt folks just wait for their favorite anyways?!?!?
Same with Doctor Who...why not release whole seasons instead of individual episodes. Or at least more episodes. The US barely has a twenty released...six of which are the Key To Time...which is a great series but I have alot of others Id prefer..and three othersof which are those horrendous Peter Cushing films!

Doc,the spines do match up to make a big RD logo, its just that each cover will be a different colour!
Why aint you got series 1 & 2,they are both available in the USA to my knowledge?
I`m just glad they are the original shows not the horrible "remastered" version!

Doctor Who makes a little more sense. They're trying to get out at least one or two of each Doctor to appease the fans. Plus they're in the middle of restoring a lot of the older one.
The Cushing films are available. I've seen them everywhere from Amazon.com to my local stores in three packs. quote: Originally posted by Arnold Judas Rimmer: Doc,the spines do match up to make a big RD logo, its just that each cover will be a different colour!
Not in the U.S. They nixed that idea. They put a lot of photos on the front and one on the spine. No logo, either. Just "Red Dwarf" written down the side. Bastards. quote: Originally posted by Arnold Judas Rimmer: I`m just glad they are the original shows not the horrible "remastered" version!
Yeah, a lot of scenes were missing out of that one. And what the hell was the deal with having CGI scutters move by for no fucking reason?

The guy at the local video store talked me into buying the VHS for Dr. Who & the Daleks. Needless to say, I'm boycotting that bastard now. I've been tempted to by the three pack just for the documentary on the Daleks. But reason took hold and prevented me.

They were godawful! There was another movie he starred in I caught once on TV thinking it was a WHO film it wasnt but many similarities. He was again an eccentric professor with youthful companions and a niece! Who travel to a world of savage...similar to unearthly child...main difference being it sucked and at the end they taught the savage to go go dance!!!!

i've heard a rumour that some episodes won't be realeshed, because the bbc is tired of paying the guy who created the daleks(and anything else he created for the show) royaltes. not sure if its true, but if it is, there will be intentional holes in the realeshes.
oh, and finally got season one of read dwarf, and i'd rather just see them put the origional on the air, not a remake. great show.

Haven't heard that, especially since since Dalek eps. have already been released in the US & UK. They did have to pay Terry Nation every time they used Daleks, and he insisted on writing the scripts for quite some time. But I think he finally sold the rights since they were only good for Doctor Who, and he couldn't make them work on their own. Rumor has it that Grant/Naylor Productions picked them up.
