lets start some controversy, or somethin. im too depressed from talking the "events" of 2 weeks ago, and nothing else. this is a topic they had on politically incorrect a few weeks ago, and was brought up last night on tlc (or cnbc... one of those news-like cable channels). so: homosexuals -- why are they the way they are? here's a few theories; 1) its a fad: its the "in thing" to do. pisses off your parents, makes you different from everyone else, potentially increases your social status. 2) its something you're born with: like being right or left handed, having brown or blonde hair, being gay is just a characteristic of your person. 3) its something you choose: somewhere along the line, you come to a decision about what you want to be when you grow up, what kind of movies you like, and what kind of partner you'll have. 4) its a mistake: something went wrong during the growth process, where genetic codes altered a way of thinking. 5) its an abomination: gay people are the devil! 6) its a hoax: there arent really any gay people, its just to scare off southerners and truck drivers. ok, go 'head.

my take: not really sure, i guess. i mean, im sure there are those that choose it, either cuz its a fad, or they want to fit in, or whatever -- but thats the minority. (as some people are gay, but dont wanna be!) rather, id say its a natural thing, the "something you're born with" bit. but, i might also go out on the scary, shaky limb, and say its a genetic mistake, somewhere. ::screaming, ranting, raving:: hear me out. its the same type of genetic mistake that makes some guys bald. that made me short as hell. that give some people 2 different colored eyes. its not a "mistake" at all. i mean, maybe, on the genetic level, it is. genetics are, by nature, in search of perfection. genetics are in search of procreation, and dominance over the environment. well, gay people can't procreate, and i cant play basketball -- girls look for tall, dark, n'handsome, not short, pale, n'ugly! so, on a genetic level, im a mistake, too. but on a real level (that is, anything but genetic), "mistake" isnt the word to use. "different" suits it much better (and, i prefer "special." ... my mom thinks im special!  ) i didnt one day decide to be short. nor should i be treated any different cuz i am. how many people out there who hate gay people are bald? or fat? or too short or too tall? or need to wear glasses? are they the devil?

ah ha! this very topic was being debated on cnbc last night (early this morning). i think it was a taped show from a few years ago, but featured a lot of "experts" on the topic. (how, exactly, is any one person more so an expert on this??) anyway, it was a panel of 4 people, one of them being the oh-thank-goodness-they-put-you-on-tv-to-represent-catholics religious 'leader', another was a genetisist, and i missed (or forgot) what the last two were. the 'religious' guy stated that he felt gays were an abomination, and that it started out as a fad, and is now being promoted by movies and comics and tv shows, like "ellen." he said that its corrupting and confusing little children into thinking they're gay, just like alcohol and gambling corrupts others -- that its just the devil. anybuddy see waterboy? "look, mamma, its the devil" the genetesist (that cant be spelled right) guy said something similar along the lines of what my 'thinking' is. that, on a genetic level, there's an "error in the programming." but that, its an "acceptible error" -- a similar kind of error that produces differences and variations in EVERY human being. i fell asleep before i could get the other two impressions.

If you think that homosexuality is a choice, perhaps you should go out and fuck a guy sometime. I know that I definitely could not do that, so I'm going to stick with homosexuality is something you, or Rob in this case, is born with. Although I have met some people who claimed to be gay as a trend when they had enjoyed women in the past. Definitely bisexuals jumping on the rainbow bandwagon.

I'm bisexual (so I'm told). Though I don't really self identify that way. I hate to sound like a Marxist/Leninist, but the subject is very political both inside and outside the gay community. In one realm, the straight world, the queer are faced with an argument as to why they exist: Is it genetics or is it choice? The main implication being that if it's a choice, you can unchoose it. That would justify non queer folk to subject queer to all kinds of humiliations and tortures in the interest of saving our souls, colons or whatever part of me they want to save. It would give the majority the right to prohibite certain sexual behaviours that they feel are 'perverted'. The stakes are very high for the LGBT community as a whole.
The LGBT community is far from unified. It has been my experience that both bisexuals and transgender are marginalized within the community. I believe it stems from the fact that we don't neatly fit into the heading homosexual. After all, we both exhibit heterosexual behaviours in addition to the homosexual ones. It makes the genetic argument harder to make.
I self identify as bigendered. I think it describes me better than the more common label of bisexual.
