Something just occured to me. The big thing with GBC was supposed to be that it had color right? But the GameBoy still seemed to keep it's low graphics and even the colors that were supposed to be such a big breakthrough for handheld games were weak and poor. But about 10 years ago wasn't there a Game Gear out that had really amazing graphics and bright rich colors. And apparently it could even play tv with a special connector.

Sure it used up a LOT of batteries but it was out there, so again, what was the big turning point in gaming with GBC?

I had a Game gear years ago,its biggest weak point was its size!
The Atari Lynx was even bigger if I remember correctly!
I'll give Nintendo credit for once,at least the Gameboy was actually pocket sized!

i had atari lynx, which was years ahead of its time. not only in color, 16-bit graphics (before SNES was even out, if i remember correctly).

it was fairly large, but the design was cool. biggest drawback i noted was its weak game selection and battery EATING.

gameboy (the original, and the later 'color' version) was able to survive and thrive because it was smaller (not really pocket sized), had long battery life, and a huge game selection.

My brother had a Lynx as well!
The Gameboy,Lynx & Game Gear were all released at the same time but I think size & battery life were what saved the Gameboy over the other two!

I think the other thing that killed the Lynx was the fact Atari had such a bad reputation with the failures of most of their systems, something that also killed The Saturn!
