The Comedian Is Dead
I will do anything to be in this:

Watchmen Faithfully Adapted

Lloyd Levin, one of the producers of the upcoming sequel film Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, told SCI FI Wire that he is also producing a faithful film version of Alan Moore/Dave Gibbon's seminal superhero graphic novel Watchmen, adapted by X-Men screenwriter David Hayter, who may also direct. "If you're familiar with the graphic novel, it's a great and challenging piece of work," Levin said in an interview. "I think we have a screenplay now that is a faithful adaptation of the graphic novel and does it justice, written by David Hayter, who wrote the X-Men movies."

Past efforts to adapt Watchmen for the movies-including one by producer Joel Silver, with Terry Gilliam directing-have stalled.

Levin-who is also producing Hellboy, based on Mike Mignola's comic series-added, "I really love comics, but I also really love movies about interesting characters. So sometimes they come from comics, sometimes they come from books. I place no restrictions." As for the current glut of comics-to-film, he said, "I think perhaps we're in a time when there are a lot of filmmakers who were big, big fans of comic books [and who] are coming of age, and they're more impassioned about telling those stories." Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, based on the Eidos video game series, opens July 25

Time to dig my Rorschach mask out of the garage, and start camping out on David Hayter's lawn.

I actually really like Wil Wheaton. He's a pretty funny guy, I read his weblog fairly regularly.

However...I don't think he'd be my first pick as Rorshach.

However, he'd make a great Silk Spectre.

Zing!

He might work as a young comedian.

Perhaps I'm underestimating Wheaton's acting skills. I've never really seen him try to do something like this. If you had told me that the nerd from Breakfast Club would go on to play Johnny from Dead Zone, I'd laugh in your face. A lot.

Wil Wheaton might work as the second Nite Owl (who was a true "geeky fanboy"-type at heart). My first pick for that role would have been a young Dan Aykroyd, but he's about two decades too old for it by now.

.....Cusack? No thanks. Yeah, he can do the self depricating humor bit, but he can't act.

How about Tim Robbins? He's tall enough to pull it off. Or maybe...*gulp*....Travolta?

He's 5'11". How big does he need to be? The 31-year-old Wil Wheaton is stockier-looking than he was during his Trek days as well. Plus, camera tricks can make people look bigger than they really are, so I don't consider that a problem.

Actually, it is usually some of these folks who have a passion for a role, no matter WHAT they did in the past, who end up doing well in it...

...mess up his hair, have him slur his words a little, Wil might make a good Rorschach...(he wasn't that bad as a cyber-geek villain on the Invisible Man...)

And, as a plus, he'd probably try harder JUST so he could escape the "curse of Wesley..."

And, oddly enough, I always figured Dan Ackroyd would make THE best second Nite-Owl, I also agree he's now a little too old. How about Jonathan Frakes? (Well, okay, maybe not...but maybe Robert Duncan McNeill?)

Yep. He'd have to gain some weight, though.

Frakes actually might not be that bad....I'd certainly prefer him to Cusack. I don't dislike Cusack but this is definitely not his kind of movie. He's a niche actor, and I've seen what he's like when he tries to play outside that niche.

From Ain't It Cool:

quote:
Has Casting Begun For WATCHMEN?!
Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Holy cow, I hope so. I’ve been hearing vague mumblings about Revolution Studios picking up WATCHMEN in turnaround from Universal, and everything seems to indicate it’s still going to be David Hayter directing his amazing adaptation that I first reviewed almost exactly a year ago.
The big question for fans now is... who the hell do you get to play these characters? Thanks to today’s scooper, maybe we have our first answer. Check it out:
Gentlemen:

Persistent evidence indicates the WATCHMEN movie is set up now at Revolution and John Cusack is attached to play Dan/Nite-Owl.

Anonymously yours,

The WBEAST

Cross your fingers. That’s cool casting for one character, and if they get real actors instead of just the flavors of the month to fill out the cast, Hayter’s got a shot at something great.
"Moriarty" out.

Add Steve Buscemi as Rorshach, and I'd see it!

Buscemi would be the shit as Rorshach. With David "Solid Snake" Hayter at the helm (he wrote X2-best movie I saw this summer), I think this'll actually be watchable.

I still don't like Cusack as Nite Owl.

Buscemi is a great actor, and he does have the basic body type for Rorshach, but I wonder if he could do the monotone voice, and actually be imposing(Rorshach did wear lifts, so he looked bigger).

This is one instance where I'd actually have to see him in the movie to get a good gauge of whether or not he could handle it. He's not as paunchy as the comic book version, but he could handle the personality easily enough. But the costume is a big question mark. Would Cusack look stupid in it? Even with his spare tire, the comic book Dan still looked heroic and strong as Nite Owl. I don't know how well Cusack could carry off that brown and gray Batman-esque suit.

Wait and see on this one, I'm afraid.

Wil would make a good Nite Owl or Captain Metropolis if they did a flashback scene to when the MinuteMen started. Or even a younger Ozymandias. I can't picture him on the current cast though.

Anyone ever seen Jane White is Sick and Twisted?

If anyone has, you'll know that Wheaton could handle the Comedian role.
