grifter 1.0 - as he is now: As a youth, Cole Cash was recruited into a special team of black ops soldiers exposed to a chemical called the Gen Factor. The Gen Factor gave the soldiers of Team Seven incredible telekinetic and telepathic powers, indefinitely expanding their abilities.
Rejecting the Gen Factor, Cole left Team Seven and wandered the earth as a lone assassin, until meeting his love, Zealot. From Zealot, Cole learned and studied in the ways of the Coda, the only man to ever receive such training.
Armed with a gun, Cole, adapting the codename: The Grifter, is unbeatable. His flair for battle is unmatched, his never-ending youth unparalled, and his latent psi-abilities still mostly untapped. your task: reinvent the character. redetail the character in every aspect you desire; origins, powers, continuity, villains, costume (include sketches if you'd like). change and improve anything and everything from the original design, but with full knowledge that you'd still like to appeal to the original audience (i.e; be careful not to change too much) upgrade, update, enhance, depower, redesign... rebirth the character as your own, version 2.0!

Grifter is a cat. He's my cat. He lives in Abington, MA. This new Grifter spends his time meowing at nothing in particular, stalking invisible threats, and randomly ignoring or playing with the two other cats: a male (Doc) and a female (Samara). He's a free-agent, sometimes currying favor from Mom and Dad; other times, he can't be bothered. Mostly, though, he's a friendly cat who just wants to eat, sleep and occasionally be pet. Here's the face of this new Grifter: (Note: His name has NOTHING to do with the WildC.A.T.S. character)

Born in Paris into an aristocratic family, Grifter was inspired by his visits to British and American colleges and universities, and set out to improve education. Part of this improvement should be sports education, which he thought to be an important part of the personal development of young people. He conceived of an international competition to promote athletics. A growing international interest in the ancient Olympics, fed by recent archaeological finds at Olympia, Grifter devised a plan to revive the Olympic Games. To publicize these plans, he organised an international congress on June 23, 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris. There he proposed to reinstate the ancient Olympic Games. The congress led to the establishing of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), of which De Coubertin became the general secretary. It was also decided that the first modern Olympics would take place in Athens, Greece and that they would be held every four years These Games proved a success, and Grifter took over the IOC presidency when Demetrius Vikelas stepped down after the Olympics in his own country. Despite the initial success, the Olympic Movement faced hard times, as the 1900 (in Grifter's own Paris) and 1904 Games were both swallowed by international fairs, and received little attention. This changed for the better after the 1906 Summer Olympics, and the Olympic Games grew to become the most important sports event. Grifter stepped down from his IOC presidency after the 1924 Olympics in Paris, which proved much more successful than the first attempt in that city in 1900. He was succeeded as president by Belgian Henri de Baillet-Latour. Grifter remained Honorary President of the IOC until he died in 1937 in Geneva, Switzerland. He was buried in Lausanne (the seat of the IOC), although his heart was buried separately in a monument near the ruins of ancient Olympia. Grifter's new uniform and cool Third Republic style.

all that work on the grifter graphic fer this?
...sigh...
very well.
i'd first like to customize grifter by giving him more of a wolverine-type, mysterious past (pre-'origin') -- splice in occasional flashbacks to his team 7 days. his world war II days. even further back. maybe eventually discovering a vandal savage or ra's al ghul-like history.
additionally summing up his ability to survive the gen factor mutation becase of his already, latent meta status. an extreme healing factor that not only saves him in battle, but essentially prevents him from dying: something he's grown to view as a vampiric curse, outlasting all of his friends, families, loves, etc.
he recklessly risks himself in battle, tauning and defying mortal wounds, will simultanously striving for one.

Okay, Bobo, I'll play your game...
First of all, I'd avoid ANYTHING to do with Wolverine, in terms of origin. Mysterious past, flashbacks, haunted by a past he doesn't remember...junk it. It's been done to death by Wolverine to the point of self-parody. I used to love Logan, but now I try my best to ignore him within the X-titles.
BUT!!! I like the latter idea. The healing factor that he looks at as a curse, and the suicidal tendencies (band joke in 3...2...1...) are cool ideas. But let's not dabble in mutant vs meta. Try this on for size:
Cole Cash (was that his secret ID?) is a man whose life is killing him, even if his body won't die. A veteran of no less than five wars (two of which the public isn't aware of), all Cash has known is the violence of the battlefield. From his entry into the US military, to his acceptance as a member of Team 7 (and subsequent "enhancement"), to his current status as mercenary and member of WildC.A.T.S., Cole Cash is a man who walks with the Reaper, dealing out death to all in his path. To his friends he is an enigma, an loyal but distant. To his enemies he is a plague rat, killing his foes with an efficiency never known before, but never tasting death himself.
And therein lies the heart of the problem. Cole Cash is a man who WANTS to die. Cole Cash is all-too-aware of the crimes against humanity that he has perpetrated. Of the innocents who became no more than collateral damage in the conflicts that he rose unscathed from. Of the fact that, while the bell tolls for others, it may never toll for him. Because his "enhancement" at the hands of the Team 7 doctors, his unnatural healing and combat skills, has left him with nothing more than the realization that he will outlive everyone he ever dares to love and the guilt that comes from the life-decisions he has made. So he continues his violent life-style. As a member of WildC.A.T.S. this man, known only as Grifter, takes on the toughest assignments. The hardest jobs. The mission with the least chance of survival. Because Grifter knows that the salvation he craves will only come when his existence ends, when the Grim Reaper, whom Grifter has been running with all his life, finally turns on and destroys the wretch named Cole Cash.

Actually, Grifter as he is now, is in a wheelchair with his mind transplanted into the body of female cyborg Ladytron. Makes evenings with Zealot that much more interesting.

whoa... any o'that true?
admittedly, i dunno anything about grifter, or any other wildcat happenings, in the past few years.
i think my 'grifter 1.0' is circa 1998.

I ain't shittin ya. Grifter got shot in the knees a while back and has been confined to a chair. He tried to train this accountant guy to replace him but that didn't work. So he had this prodigy implant his mind into Ladytron's body to mount a rescue mission to save Zealot from the Coda.
I've actually enjoyed a good bit of the current series, although it has been slow at times, and the art generally not to my liking. The progression of the group and what happened to them was pretty interesting.

Grimm is right. Joe Casey's run on Wildcats series 2 and 3.0 are some of my favorite comics ever, even though he pretty much wrote out all the Jim Lee/Image-era Wildcats except for Spartan and Grifter. I highly recommend the TPBs, or searching discount bins for the excellent singles.
